Adventures in Laser-Cutting
with Sarah Pike at FreeFall Laser

How small can a laser cutter cut?

To my surprise, this was one of the fascinating discoveries revealed when I started re-designing my sample book.

I knew in the New Year I wanted to create a new sample book that achieved three goals:
  • create a talking-piece that future clients will display on their desk instead of put in a drawer
  • showcase a wide variety of materials and techniques
  • create something that was fun to design and put together ... let's be real, these are time consuming to make, so I had to enjoy making them, right?
Look below to see the finished sample book!

Thomas Parker Williams' unique artist book Natural / Un-Natural  is on view at the Center for Book Arts. The twenty-four painted panels represent events affecting our environment and actions exacerbating these events. Each panel is divided into two sections to give two possible visual interpretations.

Every week since Inauguration Day and continuing through the end of 2017, Melanie Mowinski has printed a new letterpress card in a limited edition of 100, using vintage letterpress type, cuts and other printing matrixes. As they are completed each week, she sends 15 - 20 to key players in Washington D.C.

"The meaning of the cards is mirrored in the process of their creation: they invite the receiver to reflect on the small efforts, the small actions that when linked together, create something bigger," Mowinski said. "The cards are about being positive, yet at the same time a little subversive."
