1. Explore a Career in International Development - Global Health, in this discussion with Uzo Osikhena: Uzo Osikhena, former Senior Program Manager with Clinton Health Access Initiative and currently with Aspen Management Partnership for Health (AMP Health), describes what working in the field of International Development (Global Health) is like.

Uzo has an MBA from The Wharton School, with a focus on Finance and Management.

Some of the things that Uzo touches upon in this episode include:

  • Overview of International Development and various disciplines - Global Health, Finance, Agriculture, Public Policy & Governance, Environment, etc.
  • How to think about the kind of roles you can pursue in International Development
  • Uzo describes a project she worked on as part of the Clinton Health Access Initiative - Increasing access to family planning for women in Nigeria
  • Potential frustrations of working in International Development - financial tradeoffs vs other jobs such as banking, it's not always the most efficient sector, etc.
  • How to identify what problems to work on: Go to the website of a large donor such as Gates foundation, and start researching the areas you see there to see what aligns with your interests.
  • Resources: devex.com , developmentaid.org, websites of organizations such as WHO, UNICEF, Gates Foundation, etc.
2. Apply for gigs in International Development: Uzo and her colleagues are open to accepting applications from candidates interested in doing short term projects to get some exposure to the field. Please submit your application on the link provided and we will let you know if Uzo or any of her colleagues would like to speak with you.

3. Make lots of pots!: An interesting Quora answer on how you can develop a new skill.

4. Quote of the week: "The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out; the brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. The brick walls are there to stop the people who don't want it badly enough. They are there to stop the other people!" ~ from physicst Randy Pausch's famous Last Lecture on Achieving your Childhood Dreams
