Joanne  has now taken over from Julie Cartwright as the first point of contact for local residents, businesses and stakeholders with any questions or concerns regarding the ongoing improvement works until we finish in July 2018.
Works completed since the beginning of January 2018
Eurovia Contracting have completed the following works
  • Temporary relocation of the eastbound bus stop outside Bucks New University (BNU) to allow for relocation of the existing bus shelter ahead of the road works starting.
  • Installing of new kerb lines on northern side of Queen Alexandra Road to allow of the new parking bays maintaining access throughout the residents and properties.
  • Re-installation of parking meters and parking sign posts to support the enforcement of the bays once reopened.
  • Reconstruction of the parking bay area on the southern kerb line between the Hospital and Alexandra Park entrances
The planer machinery was used to help reduce noise impacts normally associated with breaking out existing kerb lines and road surfacing. The techniques also reduce the damage to the surrounding road and avoiding the need for further costly reconstruction.
New channel cut by the planer ready for the installation of new granite kerbs and channels
New installed granite kerbs and channel along with repositioned highways drainage covers.
Granite kerbs and channel being installed along the southern side of Queen Alexandra Road
New kerb lines installed ready for resurfacing
Parking bay channels and kerbs installed, waiting for the concrete to set prior to resurfacing.
Works from w/c 12th February 2018
During half term the site team will take advantage reduced traffic and footfall and temporarily return to Work Areas 1, 2 and 3 (see phasing plan above) to install the remaining kerbs and footway construction. Together with these works changes will also be made to the traffic management to allow work on the southern side of Queen Alexandra Road to be completed before work starts outside the hospital entrance:
  • Closure of the footway on the southern side between Alexandra Park and the Hospital during half time whilst safely diverting pedestrians through the road works during footway reconstruction.
  • Steel plates will be used at the junction of Alexandra Park to allow vehicles to enter and exit whilst channels are installed at this junction.
Following these works Eurovia Contracting will continue in Work Area 4, which will include the construction of the new off carriageway bus stop outside BNU. See plans below.
Access to the school, residential properties, university, hospital and emergency vehicles during roadworks

We would like to reassure you that access to all the stakeholders will continue to be maintained  during the roadworks. On site our traffic management team will ensure that all emergency vehicles have priority access to and from the hospital where necessary. For all stakeholders in the area affected by the road works we will ensure they have access to frontages including visitors and deliveries throughout the works whilst we reconstruct areas of the carriageway and footway next to the roads and access points.

We advise all local road users and visitors to the area to plan their journeys accordingly, and to expect some disruption and additional queuing when travelling through this section of High Wycombe especially during the AM and PM peak times throughout the duration of the works from late October through to July 2018. Please contact our Public Liaison Officer directly (details above) if you have any issues or concerns about your access ahead of the next phases of the work.
Use of temporary traffic lights during this roadworks

Throughout the delivery of this project Traffic Management (TM) will be left in place overnight during specific phases of works and sometimes through certain weekends to maintain a minimum safe carriageway width for all heavy vehicles and ambulances through the works area as well as allowing for a safe working zone for the construction team and walk way for pedestrians.

The additional benefits of retaining the traffic management during critical elements of work will allow for surfacing works to be undertaken, the new granite kerbs/channels to be laid and for the concrete to cure ahead of reopening the road to two way traffic.

Typically during the lane closure the workforce will be on site every weekday from 8am until 6pm and where weekend working is planned, Saturday and Sunday from 8am until 5pm to allow for Eurovia Contracting to maximise their time on site during this period.

There are no daytime road closures planned during this time and no work will be undertaken outside of the agreed working hours above.
All of the TM layouts that will be used throughout this project are available to view on our website here. As we progress through the works we will continue to provide regular updated information about the scheme, through the website, BCC tweets #HWTCMP, e-mail updates and bulletin boards.
Reduction of car parking

Please be aware that the car parking on Suffield Road between Rutland Street and Loakes Road has now been removed and the new Temporary Traffic Regulation Order for Suffield Road is now in force. This along with information on the new parking arrangements for Queen Alexandra Road and advice on alternative car parks within the High Wycombe Town Centre can be viewed here.
Planned roadworks and closures

Click here to view details of the roadworks, utility diversions and closures being undertaken as part of the Alternative Route construction and High Wycombe Town Centre Masterplan.
