Copyright reform: unlocking our collections

Legislative reform was top of the agenda when NSLA’s Copyright group met in Canberra this month. As well as the provisions introduced by the Copyright Amendment (Disability Access and Other Measures) Act 2017 late last year, the group discussed the impact of changes to the copyright term provisions that will come into effect on 1 January 2019, and other areas slated for consultation in 2018.

More digital access to collections workshops announced

GLAM Peak has announced the dates and locations of seven more Digital Access to Collections workshops in capital cities and regional centres around Australia, including Toowoomba, Newcastle and Nuriootpa. The workshops are aimed at staff and volunteers from small- to medium-sized collecting organisations, to increase their confidence and knowledge of digitisation and digital access.

In brief...

  • Congratulations to Margaret Allen, CEO of the State Library of Western Australia, and Kevin Bradley, A/ Asst Director-General of Collections Management at the National Library of Australia, on their outstanding contributions to libraries being acknowledged by the awarding of Public Service Medals in the Australia Day Honours List.
  • Deakin University's Professor Klaus Neumann has been awarded an Australian Research Council Linkage Project grant for his project: Representing Multicultural Australia in National and State Libraries, in partnership with the National Library of Australia, State Library Victoria, the State Library of South Australia and the State Library of New South Wales.
