About Dr. Brenneman
In addition to conducting CMU Singers, Chamber Choir and Women’s Chorus, Janet teaches courses in music education at CMU. Janet holds Bachelor and Master Degrees in Music Education from the University of Toronto, and a PhD in Music Education from Michigan State University. Her research interests include gender issues in conducting, music education philosophy, and the boys’ changing voice.
Born and raised in Wellesley, Ontario Janet now calls Winnipeg home since 2000. She shares her gifts with the community by conducting for Pembina Trails Voices, at Bethel Mennonite Church, and as the newly appointed Artistic Director of Renaissance Voices, an auditioned chamber choir in Winnipeg. She is also Co-Conductor of the Mennonite Festival Chorus. The wisdoms and knowledge of her conducting teachers Doreen Rao, Elmer Iseler, and Charles Smith continue to inspire Janet. She is a former conductor of the Woodstock Fanshawe Singers, and the Mennonite Centre Children’s Choir in Toronto. Frequently in demand as a choral clinician and adjudicator, Janet taught at the Choral Music Experience Institute with Doreen Rao and the Toronto Bach Festival with Helmuth Rilling.
