Year 5 charity - UNICEF
Year 5 are raising money for UNICEF, which helps children in Africa get a better education. UNICEF has formed a partnership with Clarks allowing us to give any old or unwanted shoes to them. In exchange, Clarks will give money to UNICEF for every tonne they receive. Therefore, we ask you to help by giving us shoes that you don’t want anymore.
Please ensure that:
  • The shoes are paired with rubber band to make them easier to sort and pack.
  • They also need to be in relatively good conditions (no holes, no broken souls).

You can give them to your class teacher between 20.02.18 and 05.03.18.
Year 5 will collect the shoes and send them to a Clarks Store, who will donate money to UNICEF (which they make from reusing their parts). Therefore, the more shoes you bring in, the more money we raise.

E-safety workshop
www.internetmatters.org/schools-esafety/parent-online-support-pack-teachers/
support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204390  provides information on how to set accessibility settings on your apple device so that you can prevent your child switching apps and wesbites.

www.commonsensemedia.org can be used to find out about the content and recommended age for films, TV, books, games, apps and websites.
www.forestapp.cc/en/ can encourage you and your family to put down their devices and unplug.

We are aware that some children in the school are using the app Musical.ly at home. Below are some useful articles to provide more information about this app and its potential safety risks.

Poster Competition

We want all of the children to get designing and create an information poster for E-Safety! This should be to inform others about all/any online safety issues e.g. being kind online, not talking to strangers online, not opening pop-ups. Children can decide whether to design a poster by hand OR to use Purple Mash. This children have been set a ‘to do’ notification on their Purple Mash account. This will come up when they login to Purple mash and will take them to the poster design activity. The designs will be judged by school council and announced in assembly after half term. The winning posters will be displayed inside the school. If doing by hand, please send designs in with your child, remembering to write your full ness and class clearly on the design. All entries must be in by Tuesday 20th February.
Thank you to the parents who attended this morning’s e-safety parent workshop. We hope you found it useful and informative. For those parents who could not make the training, the link to the presentation is below and on our website. There are also some links to useful websites mentioned in today’s session as well.
STEM workshop
Y5 and 6 were treated to a chemistry workshop on Tuesday. First, they learnt about chemical bonds and even acted out chemical reactions. Then, they took part in creating a chemical reaction by combining hydrogen peroxide, a catalyst and soap.  We had such an inspiring and fun afternoon. Maria Ocampo-Hafalla even told us that we should all aim to do something we love when we are older and added that, ‘To practise, is to progress.’ Something we have thought about for the rest of the week!

Alternative Book Cover Design Competition  for World Book Week
World Book Week starts on the 26th February and we will of course be holding our very popular World Book Week competition for the children to design their own book cover. Children need to draw the front cover, spine and back cover of the book, making sure they include the book name, author, blurb and that they use illustrations that show the main themes from the text. Please be creative and design an ‘alternative’ book cover. They can choose any book they like! The only rule is that every entry should be of A4 size. Entries MUST be given to their child’s class teacher by Tuesday 20th February so they can be judged and the winning entries sent to Waterstones in Notting Hill Gate to be displayed in their window!

Cello lessons - SPACES!

We now have more spaces for beginner cello for children in Year 3 upwards. There is also a space in a pre-grade 1 group if a child already plays the cello.

We will give priority to children who are not already learning an instrument.
Please contact Michelle Foster on michelle.foster@foxprimary.co.uk to register your interest.

RC Yaseen

Yaseen bounces into our classroom every day with so much energy and enthusiasm for learning. He always shows wonderful Fox listening and shares ideas and thoughts with his partner and the class throughout the day. It would be very quiet without him in RC! Thank you, Yaseen!

He used carefully chosen time connectives and vivid adjectives to draw the reader in. What a brilliant week Rio. Keep up the hard work!
2J Gaia We were absolutely blown away by Gaia’s work in our Fantastic Mr Fox story writing this week. She really concentrated during our writing sessions and included so many ‘big, juicy sentences’! Well done Gaia and keep up the excellent learning!
2S Marco Marco has been an absolute star in phonics this half term. He is bursting with enthusiasm in every lesson and has been putting so much effort into learning each new way of spelling a sound.
