2CV Racers on BBC Top Gear

We are still awaiting notification of the broadcast date and time of the eagerly anticipated BBC Top Gear programme celebrating 70 years of the iconic Citroen 2CV. The programme should feature a bunch of 2CV racers mixing it with presenters Matt Le Blanc and Chris Harris (in the same green car) at the Croix circuit in France. As soon as we hear anything, we’ll send out a special Newsletter.

2018 – 70 Years of the Citroen 2CV

2018 is the year when we celebrate the launch of the Citroen 2CV. It was introduced by Citroën after being delayed by WW2, at the 1948 Paris Mondial de l'Automobile and manufactured by them from 1948 until1990. You may have seen the pictures of three prototypes made before WW2 being lifted from a barn in 1994 where they had been secreted away for the duration. It went on to become an icon of everything French. There are still nearly 3000 road registered in the UK and many more in Europe and around the world.

The second part is for the tenth and final round of the Championship, the 29th running of the Liqui Moly 2CV 24 Hour. This will be staged at Snetterton Circuit, August 17 – 19.

Alec also oversees the Club ROOR fund. The ‘Race Cars Out of Retirement’ fund is active again for 2018. It is to encourage cars which have not been seen out racing for a few years to get sorted and out racing again.

24 Hour Race Radio

Your commentary team for the 29th running of the Liqui Moly 2CV 24 Hour Race, at Snetterton, August 17-19, is already in place. Lead by Snetterton favourite Lewis Beales, the team will be Josh Barrett, Lester Forbes and Dan Marr. We also hope to have club member Christine Savage assisting. Their words of wisdom (?!?!) will go out on the circuit PA, except when it is switched off from 18.00 Saturday to 09.00 Sunday; on the FM radio covering the circuit (frequency to be announced); and on the web, with real moving pictures. During the 24 Hour race, anyone can log on to: www.2cvracing.org.uk, www.motorsport.media or www.barctv.net to view the extensive coverage. There is nothing quite like dipping into the live coverage of a race which runs twice around the clock.
The live webcast does not come cheap and we thank all our very loyal sponsors. Costs will be higher this year and we would welcome two more, at just £350 each. Get your company brand featured – contact martin@lionpic.co.uk to discuss.
Lester Forbes, with his company, Motorsport Media, overseas the technical side of 24 Hour Race Radio. In recent months he and his techie mates have been developing a totally new way to provide live video coverage of the circuit, the pit lane and the studio for the webcast. There is still a lot of development and testing to do, but we hope to have 10 live cameras around the circuit. If you know of anyone who would like to assist with the project over the race weekend, drop the editor a line - some of the remote cameras will need servicing.
