Welcome to our February newsletter, which will keep you up-to-date with all the latest local events suitable for juniors. Please remember, we want to spread news of chess events for juniors in the region, so feel free to forward to friends and family to subscribe.

ECF U18 Championships, call for players

Date: Sunday 25th February, 2018
Place: The King’s School, Grantham, NG31 6RP
Sections: ECF U18 Open (12 players) and U18 Minor (6 players, grade limited)
Organiser: Neill Cooper, ECF Manager of School Chess
Format: 2 round Jamboree, round 1 at 11.00am, round 2 at 1.30pm

Notts Chess Association have have now entered a team, so please contact simonscott.chess@gmail.com to if you can play. This is a prestigious event, with a chance to become National U18 Champions! All levels are welcome, only requirement is that you are an ECF Bronze member or above (if you never had ECF membership, free silver membership is available).

Junior U130 Four Counties Quadrangular

Date: Sunday 25th March 2018
Venue: Fosse Way Academy, North Hykenham, Lincoln LN6 8DU
Time control: 50 mins + 10s increments

Must be graded U130 on August or January list. 3 ECF-graded games with games analysis where time with John Swain. For more info please contact Simon Scott.
Our next event is the Nottingham Congress, 21st and 22nd April 2018, again at Nottingham High School. Sections for all levels, 5 ECF graded standardplay games

Midland Open Junior Championships


Dates: 3rd-5th April 2018
Venue: Kenilworth School CV8 2DA
Time control: 90 mins + 30s incs

There are separate sections for under-18, under-14, under-11, and under-9 players with prizes for best male and female players in each.

Rounds start at 10am and 3pm daily. All games ECF-graded and the U11, U14, and U18 sections will be FIDE-rated.

East Midlands Chess Academy Junior Grand Prix

Round 3: Friday February 16th; Round 2: Friday February 23rd
Venue: Bramcote Methodist Church Hall, Chapel Lane, Bramcote
Times: 7.00pm-9.00pm.
Ages: U14s, U12s, U10s and U8s sections. There will be group coaching session followed by an ECF graded game
Entry fee - £10.00 per session. There are 8 sessions between February and May, top 8 results count to the final score.

Venue: Wellingborough School, NN8 2BX
Time control: 25mins each

6 round rapidplay open to all juniors, sections: U9, U11 and U18. Download an entry form.
