Who'd have thought it but Dover is becoming an ever-more lively town for visual artists and makers. Joseph Black has set up a beautiful new exhibition space at the River Garage studios. The inaugural exhibition, curated with Louise Webb, Reflections on Landscape: against the tide included my piece made as part of the Woods to Where Else project.
Another initiative by two young artists in Dover, Christian Venkatasamy and Sam Capell, goes under the name Modus Society and aims to show work in everyday spaces. So if you fancy a meal or a drink at The Allotment restaurant here in Dover, run by artist-owner Victoria Pasquino, you can do so while enjoying work by myself, Joanna Jones, Frazer Doyle and Drew Burrett, on show until 8 April.
Meanwhile there are big changes up at the Astley Avenue studios (Dover Studio Collective) which will also be the venue for two Threads micro-residencies later in the year. The studios are now purely working studios and occupied by myself, Kate Beaugie, Nicolas Deshayes, Mike Tedder and Drew Burrett. We will be opening the studios over the weekend of 26 and 27 May for the second edition of the Dover Print Fest. We are very sorry to say goodbye to Chris Burke although he will still be very much part of the collective as is former studio holder Louisa Love, now studying in Edinburgh.
For those who haven't yet heard, DAD's latest project CHALKUP21, an art and architecture trail linking 9 structures, will take you from Capel-le-Ferne to Deal on a 17-mile walking trail that honours the art and architecture of now.
