Calle Joaquin Park & Ride Lot Ribbon Cutting

First Park & Ride Lot in San Luis Obispo City Open for Business

San Luis Obispo, Calif. – February 9, 2018   Today the San Luis Obispo Council of Governments (SLOCOG) and the City of San Luis Obispo announce the ribbon cutting of the first Park & Ride Lot constructed in the City of San Luis Obispo. Here are the details:

WHAT: Ribbon Cutting for Calle Joaquin Park & Ride Lot. Speakers include SLO City Mayor, Heidi Harmon and SLOCOG Executive Director, Ron De Carli.

WHEN: Ceremony will begin at 10am on Friday, February 16, 2018.

WHERE: The Park & Ride Lot is located between 1530 Calle Joaquin (Hampton Inn) and 1585 Calle Joaquin (Rose Garden Inn). Access to the lot is shared through the Hampton Inn driveway off Calle Joaquin.

BACKGROUND: Calle Joaquin is the first formal P&R Lot in the City of San Luis Obispo adding 31 spaces to the region-wide P&R inventory and includes two motorcycle spaces and a bus turnout.  With the addition of Calle Joaquin, 17 Park & Ride Lots are now available for commuter use region-wide.  The total number of available spaces region-wide is now at 613.  This site was determined to be a good location to capture Park and Ride users on the south-side of the City as documented in the 2017 Park & Ride Lot Study (Adopted August 2, 2017).  Additionally, Old Calle Joaquin has historically been used as an informal Park & Ride Lot. The City of SLO oversaw the design and construction of the lot.

FUNDING: SLOCOG funds were $260,000 Congestion Mitigation Air Quality (CMAQ) and $65,000 Regional Surface Transportation Program (RSTP) for a total of $325,000.  SLO City contributed $206,000 carry over money from the LOVR Interchange Project for a total project cost of $531,000.
