The Flu Has Arrived

Several of our theater students have come down with the flu. It is VERY important for students who suspect that they have the flu to stay home! We are only a month out from our state performances. It would be devastating if our performers, technicians, or orchestra members could not perform. Please keep your children home and seek medical advice at the first sign of illness.
From the CDC website:
The flu usually comes on suddenly. People who have the flu often feel some or all of these symptoms:
  • Fever* or feeling feverish/chills
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headaches
  • Fatigue (tiredness)
  • Some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults.

* It’s important to note that not everyone with flu will have a fever.

Show Shirts for Side Show and Urinetown

Show t-shirts for Side Show and Urinetown went on sale at the benefit concert on January 30th. Anyone may purchase a shirt. The cost per shirt is $20. Supplies are limited! We will only be placing a second order for shirts if we run out. See Mr. Paris in the Black Box to purchase your shirt. We can take cash, check, or card.

The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui

Tickets are now on sale for The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui by Bertolt Brecht. This production is a partnership with Stageworks Theatre in the channelside district. Stagework’s theater is smaller than ours and tickets will sell out fast (there are only 99 seats per show). If you plan on seeing this show, make sure you buy tickets early. Side Show, Urinetown, and State Schedule

Due to the unusual nature of bringing two shows to state AND starting rehearsals for Songs for a New World, coordinating rehearsal schedules is a more complicated task than usual. The tentative schedules for all shows have been posted on the department calendar on line for some time, but we will be sending out a solidified schedule this week. We dont expect major changes. As mentioned many times, State is during spring break which means rehearsals, set load-in, and schedules will be as organized as possible, but exact times may change. This is how collaborative projects work. We hope everyone will remain as professional and supportive as always.

Lip Sync

Our annual Lip Sync challenge is this Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 6pm. It is one of our craziest and most fun nights of the year. Come see the unexpected as our performers go for broke to win your votes. Performers will report to the Black Box after school for review and the show starts at 6! Cash only at the door.

Fundraising

We are very close to our fundraising goals for the year. We are only $5,000 away! EVERY student in the theater department is impacted by our ability to raise funds. Blake Theater is 100% self-funded. We do not receive any funding from the county. If we don’t have money, we dont have costume supplies, tools to build sets (or anything for sets for that matter), microphones for sound, thread, screws, show rights, etc.
There are 150 students in the Theater Department. If every family approached a business about sponsoring us and was only able to get $100, we would still raise $15,000!
Mr. Paris is willing to meet and talk to anyone who wants more information, but he needs the introduction. We are asking everyone to take part in a program in which their child invest so much of their time. If you need help, send us an email and we’ll get on it.
