LOVE LETTERS TO PLACE

con·flu·ence
(from Latin confluere ‘flow together’)

1) the junction of two rivers, especially rivers of approximately equal width.
2) an act or process of merging

My favorite part of Senses of Place is working with collaborators who complement my skills by contributing ideas and content. Even if I could do every aspect of a project on my own, I wouldn’t want to because the confluence of working together makes for a much richer and dynamic outcome.

I am working on three new projects this spring with women who inspire me not only to do this work, but to continually develop new ideas and ways to make the content more engaging. My collaborators are equal parts colleagues and friends, and they each contribute something unique and essential to the process.

Dawne Schoep brings an integral depth of knowledge about health and wellness to the Seasonal Practice course. We have been developing the content for the spring session of Seasonal Practice for over a year now and have been having a blast learning how to make videos and audio recordings to offer you a multi-media experience in this online course.  On a recent trip to the SF Botanical Garden with Dawne, she remarked that “isn’t it wonderful when your work day consists of playing outside with your friend in a beautiful garden?” I couldn’t agree more and I am thrilled to announce that registration is now available for our inaugural session of this seasonal course starting on March 19th.

Caitlin Hibma’s whimsical watercolors beautifully illustrate the ingredients for the products in each month’s CSH share. She has been developing her unique style over the years through travel sketching and I’m so glad she has launched into the world of botanical illustration! Stephanie Potter Corwin’s behind-the-scenes graphic design work is an important component that ties it all together. The draft cards for the spring CSH shares just came in this week and they are lovely! Can't wait to share them with you all.

The inspiration for the Silvan + Spring Retreat came from dreams of traveling with Laurie Matthews, who has journeyed all over England on a quest to learn about some of her iconic female ancestors. We’ve talked for many years about traveling to England together to explore the “silvan” landscapes and “spring” waters. I am so thrilled to be able to offer this trip with her as a retreat for other like-minded souls.

We are exploring new formats this season, including teaching in-person and online, and offering collectible artwork as part of the CSH shares. Your support means so much to me and thank you for following along as we explore these new projects. Please consider passing along this email to someone who might be interested in learning more about the spring session of Seasonal Practice, the Silvan + Spring Retreat, and the Spring CSH shares. See below for more details.

I hope you all have your own inspiring collaborators in life and art! I’d love to hear who they are and what you are working on together.

Until next month,

We’ll celebrate the ancient Gaelic festival of Beltane together as we mark the transition between spring and summer, and learn about the history and traditions of this important annual celebration.
