Yes, that's a photo of me, and my best gals, Lynda Ryan and Nancy Mencke—friends since 1982.
Happy Galentine's Day

Did you know that Galantine’s Day is celebrated on February 13th? In the words of Bustle, “Basically, it's like Valentine's Day, only instead of celebrating the love you have for your significant other, you spend it with your best girlfriends, who are, after all, your soul mates, and therefore deserve a holiday all to themselves, too."

I'm running a contest to celebrate Galentine's Day with a giveaway for you and your best gal pal!  Hurry--the deadline to enter is midnight tonight!  Here are details...
  • Take a photo of yourself with a Karen White book--or two
  • Visit my Facebook page and scroll down to the Galentine's Day promo
  • Post your picture and tag your best girlfriend
  • I will choose my favorite entry, and the winning pair will each receive an advanced copy of my next book, Dreams of Falling
  • Enter before midnight on February 12th; winner to be announced on Galentine's Day!
Look at this gorgeous scarf made for me by this month's featured reader, Marybeth Nichols!  I'm also excited and humbled to share her kind words regarding my books...
Featured Reader:  Marybeth Nichols

"I met Karen White nine years ago at a book signing and I remember telling her that I would love to have a new favorite author. I was hooked on the very first book. Her story lines are fresh and original and I anxiously await every book that’s coming out. Why? Because I know that I will be drawn into another Karen White story and have hours of enjoyment. If you are looking for a fabulous book to read, or to give as a gift, you can never go wrong with anything that has been written by Karen White. And one last thought; Karen is truly a gracious and kind woman. I am proud to call her a friend."

My character, Sugar, from THE NIGHT THE LIGHTS WENT OUT, showed her love with delicious and sweet home baked treats.  Here's a recipe from her cookbook that I'm sure you and your loved ones will enjoy...

Sugar’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe
  • 1 cup (16 tablespoons) unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 1 large egg yolk, at room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup quick-cooking or old-fashioned oats
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt or 3/4 teaspoon regular table salt
  • 3 cups semisweet chocolate chips Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F. Line several cookie sheets with parchment paper, or lightly grease with non-stick vegetable oil spray.
  2. Beat together butter and sugars until smooth.
  3. Beat in the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla.
  4. Whisk together the flour, oats, baking powder, baking soda, and salt, and add to the butter mixture in the bowl.
  5. Mix until everything is thoroughly incorporated. Scrape the bottom and sides of the bowl, and mix briefly.
  6. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  7. Scoop the dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 1 1/2" to 2" between cookies.
  8. Bake the cookies for 12 to 17 minutes, until they're a light golden brown, with slightly darker edges.
  9. Remove the cookies from the oven, and as soon as they're set enough to handle, transfer them to racks to cool.
  10. Enjoy!
To celebrate the upcoming release of the paperback edition of THE NIGHT THE LIGHTS WENT OUT, I'm excited to be giving away a book club kit that includes a Karen White wine coozie and a $25 wine.com gift certificate!

Sweepstakes begins Feburary 15th and runs through the 22nd.  To enter: http://bit.ly/2nrHen6
Chocolate is at the top of my list of favorite things and this bar of pure deliciousness is one of my absolute faves!  And with it being dark chocolate,  it's also healthy, right?  Alter Ego Deep Dark Sea Salt Organic Chocolate is available in my area at Fresh Market or Whole Foods!
And now the moment you've all been waiting for... If you've read any books in my Tradd Street series, hopefully you'll remember the plumber who's always showing a little bit extra of his backside. The character's name, Rich Kobylt, is a real life person who also happens to be my very good natured brother-in-law, pictured here!  In the spirit of Valentine's Day and all good things that we love and make us laugh, here's to plumber's butts and brothers-in-law!
