Lynn Bailey - Printmaker : Newsletter 19
Lynn Bailey - Printmaker
Welcome to Newsletter 19

I would like to invite you to the Windsor Contemporary Art Fair. The private view is Friday 10th November, plus I have two-for-one tickets for Saturday & Sunday 11th & 12th November. I can email PDFs to you or post them to your address – just let me know ASAP.

Other news in this newsletter includes an update on my Magnificent Mires work & the Thelma Hulbert Gallery editioning work with Frances Hatch, touring mini prints and a Double Elephant exhibition planned for the Royal Albert Memorial Museum.

I would also like to take a moment to apologise for the disheveled state of my website at the moment. It is somewhat out of date and has gone strangely skew-whiff. It’s on my to do list to sort it out – but it keeps sliding down the list while I get distracted or busy with other more urgent/interesting projects... but I really must sort it out...

Here’s a quick list of what’s in this newsletter:-
  1. Invite to Windsor Contemporary Art Fair.
  2. Updates
  3. RAMM

This is one of my favourite art fairs. As an exhibitor I really appreciate how well run it is. The marquee on the racecourse is seriously sturdy and warm. There are well constructed stands and I can be confident that everything will be exactly as I’ve pay for.

WCAF flags itself up as being “Real art for real people”, with “Affordable contemporary art from £40 - £4,000”. Actually, my work ranges from £30 to £500, plus this time I shall be bringing a batch of my greeting cards that retail for £2.50 each. But art fairs are more than just selling events, so I hope you can swing by and say hello. 18 hours is quite a long time to stand there but I really do enjoy chatting and explaining what I do. In fact, I always take a few printing plates with me to help explain the processes involved with my printmaking.

Don’t forget to ask me to send you an invite for the PV or a two-for-one ticket. I can’t attach a PDF to a MailChimp newsletter, but if you are in my “normal” email contacts I shall try and send you the email invite anyway. Tickets would otherwise cost £7 each and you can’t get in for the PV without a ticket. I can send you an admits 2 ticket for nothing. Otherwise it would cost £12 for one or £24 for two.
Little Wren wood engraving Lynn Bailey
I’m planning my wall layout right now and there will be a fair amount of the Dartmoor Magnificent Mires work plus some Hedgerows and other favourites, including my most recent tiny wood engraving of a little Wren.

Hope to see you soon!

2. Updates

Magnificent Mires
My artwork based on the Dartmoor Magnificent Mires didn’t stop at the official end of the project. I felt so immersed in the blanket bogs that I couldn’t resist producing a few more images and some variations of the other plates. These will be having their first outing at the WCAF and will be added to the stock I have in my Etsy shop in due course.

Thelma Hulbert project
After my preliminary meeting with Frances Hatch (as mentioned in Newsletter 18) I worked with Frances at Double Elephant for fairly short sessions once or twice a week. During this time several new images emerged using a variety of printmaking techniques. After about 20 hours worth of experimentation we settled on an image to be editioned.
This image has been completed now and is available (with additional variations) from the Thelma Hulbert Gallery.

Mini Prints
Meanwhile – my two little Dartmoor Mires that got selected by the Hahnemuhle Mini Print exhibition are still touring around East Anglia. They were in Adebrough for September, Norwich in October and will be at the Art Space in Cambridge for 17-19 November and New Cut in Halesworth 1-4 December. You can find more details here

3. RAMM and beyond!

Double Elephant Print Workshop was one of 5 finalists who competed for the Express & Echo Local Art Show 2017. We’ve achieved the shortlisted for this opportunity to have an exhibition in the Royal Albert Memorial Museum before, but this time we won!

The members are busy getting inky and preparing Dartmoor themed artwork for the exhibition that will take place at RAMM from December 13 to January 17, 2018. This year’s Local Art Show complements RAMM’s main winter exhibition, Dartmoor: A Wild and Wondrous Region which traces artists’ portrayal of Dartmoor, once described as a dreary mountainous tract and later as the epitome of the picturesque.

The timing couldn’t be better for us at Double Elephant because we will be celebrating our 21st anniversary in 2018 and I’m planning a series of events that will be nicely kicked off by the Express & Echo Local Art Show at RAMM. More about those upcoming events next time!

...and don’t forget to explore courses at Double Elephant

Hope to see you soon

Thanks             Lynn
