Hi everyone,

The year is well underway and this January was the warmest on record. Today is meant to be a hot one again. We are fortunate to have an office with good air conditioning – if anyone remembers our last office - that was much harder to keep cool. There are many advantages to being in a new building.

Bridge2Rocks TimeBank coordinator position
Applications close on Thursday for this 15 hour per week contract position. We’re really going to miss Jules Lee, who has been a great colleague over the last year or so. She’s moving onto other work shortly, and we’re looking for her successor. Mini Music is up and running again for 2018. We’re delighted to welcome Rachel Clark as our new tutor. Rachel has a background in primary school teaching as well as in running the Cowles Stadium Tumbletimes preschool gymnastics sessions. Sessions are held every Tuesday of term time in Puoro-raki, upstairs in the Matuku Takotako: Sumner Centre, and on every Thursday of term time in the Uniting Church hall on Augusta Street, Redcliffs. Both sessions begin at 9.30 am and cost $3 per child or $5 for a family.  

TONIGHT there is a Council drop in consultation session for the Bays Area Skate Park project. There are four proposed sites:
26 Nayland Street (Sumner)
Old Redcliffs School site (Redcliffs)
Scott Park (Ferrymead)
Sumner Beach (near the Sumner Surf Lifesaving Club)

We would like to invite the community to attend a workshop to discuss each of these sites in more detail.  You can drop in at any time between 6 pm and 8 pm and discuss each of the proposed sites with members of the project team.

The Redcliffs Residents Association advises that the Christchurch City Council has arranged to restore the footpath outside Moa Bone Cave, following a lot of representations and support for the proposal from the Residents Association and the Community Board. As the space available has been narrowed due to the rockfall remediation work, replacing the footpath will inevitably result in the loss of the previous parking spaces but in this location it is not likely to be any problem. The other consequence is the plan to move the bus stop on the other side of the road which may affect more people.

If you have an opinion on this you might like to respond to Tara's request for feedback from the community. See her details below and a plan of the proposed works.

We are planning to install the new footpath in March 2018 and would be more than happy to meet and discuss the proposed plans with any interested parties. If you would like to discuss what is proposed please contact me and I will arrange for the Project Manager to meet with you.
A staff report will need to go to the Linwood-Central-Heathcote Community Board in relation to the relocated bus stop, and they will need to consider community feedback as part of their decision.  If you have any feedback regarding the bus stop, please contact me by 19 February 2018.  You can do this by phoning me directly on (03) 941 5938 or by email on Tara.King@ccc.govt.nz’

Our Older Persons' Worker Maree has been with us a year, and what an exciting year it has been! With 34 clients on the books, she is making great progress supporting our local seniors. Upcoming events include a movie afternoon on Friday 23 February at Hollywood Cinemas - the movie is called Finding your feet, and begins at 1.30 pm. Buy your tickets early as there can be quite a queue on the day. 

Coming up on 15 April 2018 is our inaugural Creative Art Show, being held at the Mt Pleasant Yacht Club. Finally, don’t forget our coffee mornings. Our Tea & Talk group runs in the Sumner Library meeting room each Monday and our Coffee & Conversation group runs in the Uniting Church hall, Augusta Street in Redcliffs each Thursday. There is no cost to the session although donations are welcome to cover the cost of the refreshments. Both sessions start at 10.30 am.
