Bathurst’s BCO becomes even more accessible to community musicians!

The Bathurst Chamber Orchestra has a long and proud history of serving the community, presenting stand-alone and collaborative performances since 1978! With this in mind, the Mitchell Conservatorium is thrilled to be making the group even more accessible to all players of orchestral instruments in Bathurst, with rehearsals for the Bathurst Community Orchestra commencing Monday evening, 19 February.

Over the years the BCO has provided a wonderful opportunity for community string players, students and visiting artists, to gain skills and to experience the camaraderie of the group music experience. While the mainly string-based group has expanded on many occasions to add Wind, Brass and Percussion players for larger performance events, the group has concentrated on strings repertoire. From this month on, the BCO will cater for whole-orchestra instrumentation, with symphonies, collaborations with choirs like the Allegri Singers and local and visiting soloists, as the BCO has always done, with a greater focus on inclusion for community players.

MitCon Executive Director and conductor, Graham Sattler, is excited to get started with a program of Disney favourites, leading up to the Orchestra’s first performance for the year, a family concert in late April. “Orchestral music is such a wonderful medium for bringing musicians together”, says Dr Sattler… “and the opportunity to expand on what has been a tremendous and much-loved asset to this region for many, many years is, quite honestly, a treat”.
