Repair Tech Named Chamber Business of the Year
Repair Tech, an industrial contractor located in southern Isle of Wight County, was named 2017 Business of the Year by the Franklin-Southampton Area Chamber of Commerce at its annual meeting on March 1st. The business, owned by brothers Craig, Mike and Nathan Sawyer, began in 1999. Repair Tech services chemical facilities, paper mills, power plants and other construction fields. In recent years, the company diversified by creating Bluewater Rentals, a business that provides portable bathrooms to construction sites and outdoor events. In 2017, Repair Tech purchased Cole Fence, one of the oldest and most experienced residential, commercial and industrial fencing companies in Virginia. The Chamber also praised Repair Tech for its service to the community including the following: supporting high school athletic programs, The Children’s Center and Cancer Care Foundation.

Oasis on Main
Celebrates Ribbon Cutting
Oasis On Main celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony on February 7th hosted by the Isle of Wight-Smithfield-Windsor Chamber of Commerce. The massage studio, located upstairs in the historic Gaming House at 124 Main Street in Smithfield, offers Swedish, deep tissue, sports, prenatal, and hot stone massages as well as reflexology and aromatherapy, all by owner Karen Wilda, LMBT.

Kids Come 1st
Celebrates Ribbon Cutting
Kids Come 1st, a licensed day care center for children ages birth to 12 years, celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the Isle of Wight-Smithfield-Windsor Chamber of Commerce on February 13th. The center is located at 1605 South Church Street in Smithfield. Congratulations to owners Jamie and Pete Mintz.

Welding Lab Opens at
Smithfield High School
Isle of Wight County Schools celebrated the grand opening of its new welding lab with a unique, steel "ribbon" cutting ceremony on February 9th. The welding lab is part of the school system’s new Career & Technical Education (CTE) program. The new lab was made possible through a partnership between Liebherr Mining Equipment Company and Isle of Wight County Schools.

Share Your Stories: Peanuts, Ham & Agriculture
March is National Peanut Month, and to celebrate, the folks at the Isle of Wight County Museum ask that you share your peanut stories with them. The museum is writing a book about Isle of Wight County’s agricultural history and needs your help documenting peanuts….as well as pork, cotton, wheat, soybeans, corn and potatoes. This popular culinary event showcases the wide variety of food and beverage products from across the Commonwealth. National SBDC Day
Small Business Conference
In honor of National Small Business Development Center Day (SBDC Day), on Wednesday, March 21st, the Hampton Roads SBDC will host an educational conference for independently-owned businesses and entrepreneurs.
