The first of its kind in the NHS: Chief Innovation Officer

Shane Degaris, CEO, The Hillingdon Hospital NHS Foundation Trust writes a guest piece on his ongoing ambitions and the current opportunity to rethink healthcare as part their redevelopment and new partnerships.
Recently I reminded myself of the humble beginnings of two of the most prominent organisations and arguably one of the most recognised products of our time: 

Google began in 1996 as a university research project exploring the mathematical properties of the World Wide Web; Amazon joined the internet in 1998 as an online book seller; Apple faced objection to the Iphone as it didn’t have a physical keyboard.
 
I question; how have these organisations pushed the boundaries and barriers of their constraints and continued to grow year on year, driving new innovations? How have they scaled up their vision and delivered solutions for populations that can be apprehensive of change?

ICHP announces new partnership with Medopad
 
Imperial College Health Partners (ICHP) are excited to announce a partnership with Medopad, a leading UK healthcare AI company. This alongside other strategic partnerships has formed part of £100M of deals announced during the Prime Minister’s trade mission to China. 

Medopad lead on mobile health solutions which connect patients and healthcare professionals in real-time, including patient self-care apps and remote patient monitoring.

The collaboration will enable ICHP’s partner organisations to work with Medopad on existing innovations, helping to improve diagnosis, enhance patient treatment and empower both clinicians and patients. Read more...
NHS rolls out new tech across London to prevent 924 strokes, save 231 lives and £20.6m million annually

ICHP are excited to be part of innovative technology being rolled out across the country including here in NW London to prevent strokes. Hundreds of mobile electrocardiogram (ECG) units are being distributed to GP practices, pharmacies and NHS community clinics. The range of tech being rolled out can detect irregular heart rhythm quickly and easily, enabling NHS staff to refer any patients with irregular heart rhythms for follow up as they could be at risk of severe stroke. Read more...
 
Using data to improve outcomes for Sepsis patients?

We were proud to host a ‘National Sepsis Workshop: Using Data to Improve Outcomes for Sepsis Patients’. It achieved the first steps in helping ICHP and our health partners to use data more intelligently to produce better outcome for our sepsis (infection with badness) patients.

London businesses called on to solve NHS challenges with digital innovation

Companies across the capital can compete to join an innovative digital health accelerator, launched to help develop and deploy digital solutions to some of the most pressing challenges facing London’s NHS. The programme will work with 25 small and medium sized enterprises across the capital to match their products to NHS needs. Read more...
NHS Innovation Accelerator

The NHS Innovation Accelerator (NIA) supports uptake and spread of proven, impactful innovations across England’s NHS, benefiting patients, populations and NHS staff. They have published their new brochure which give detailed information about the 37 evidence-based innovations that are being supported to spread across the NHS.

Successful Recruitment Event

On Tues 6 Feb we held a recruitment information event at our office in partnership with Medic Footprints. The evening, primarily aimed at doctors but all were welcome, saw around 50 potential employees hear from a range of staff about their experiences of working at ICHP. The evening, which was lived streamed, was a great success for promoting a diverse breadth of careers for doctors beyond conventional clinical practice.
