In two days, the second annual Pitt Day of Giving will officially begin. Last year, thanks to the generous donations of our students, alumni, staff, friends, and family, UCIS propelled into 2nd place out of all the clubs, groups, and programs at Pitt.

First place went to Pitt Athletics, and considering that Pitt is a Division One school, we were honored and grateful to have attained second place. But this year, we're gunning for gold.

Last year, Pitt released an additional $20,000 dollars to UCIS for its second place rank, money that we used to establish the MyPittGlobal Fund. MyPittGlobal is a fund that is distributed to undergraduate, graduate, Ph.D., and post-doc students, to support their outside-the-classroom experiences--internships, service-learning projects, career fairs, research, and networking opportunities around the country and the world.

We hope that this year, you can help us climb to first place, so we can continue to support the global education and research of all Pitt students. You can donate now, or give on #PittDayofGiving on 2.28. Thank you for supporting UCIS and global education. https://pittdayofgiving.com/2018/donate.php

P.S. Check our social media channels on 2.28 for Pitt Day of Giving updates!

Upcoming Events
Love Affair, or the Case of the Missing Switchboard Operator
Thursday, March 1, 3:00 P.M.
4130 Posvar Hall

Dusan Makavejev’s Love Affair provides us with an example of cinematic reflexivity--a technique that reminds the viewer that he or she is watching a film--can be achieved through intertextuality, exaggeration of cinematic conventions or conspicuous narration that reminds us of the author’s mark on the text, all techniques evidenced in Love Affair. The film will be introduced Dr. Ljiljana Duraskovic, Director of Undergraduate Studies, Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures.

1968: Perspectives from Eastern Europe
Thursday, March 1, 4:45 P.M.
4130 Posvar Hall

This round-table is a follow-up event to the screening of the Unbearable Lightness of Being (February 28, 2 p.m.) and of Love Affair (March 1, 3 p.m.) and is part of the UCIS-wide anniversary series on 1968. The panel will explore (partly based on the films and the book) the question whether 1968 has a universal meaning across geographic space and time.

"Poles, Jews and the Holocaust: How my Country Deals with its Difficult Past"
Wednesday, Feb. 28, 4:30-6:00 P.M.
Breed Hall Margaret Morrison 130 (CMU Campus)

Anna Biknot, a Polish historian and journalist who won the 2011 European Book Prize for her work, The Crime and the Silence, presents a lecture on the implications of how Poland deals with the history of the Holocaust within its borders.
