Hello After a Long Pause

Welcome back after an unannounced pause. Please accept my apologies, but life happens from time to time. I am happy to report that the pause was for positive reasons, being very busy and the holidays, and allowed me to bring great news to you all! The New Year has started off strong! Keep reading to find out about all the exciting things coming in the world of The Calm Scribe. As always, thank you for your interest and please share this email with anyone you think may enjoy it.

The Best Cup of Coffee You Will Ever Taste...

Look for my piece about the Rocksteady Coffee Co., and the journey the owners took to find their passion. Coffee fans around the world know that the Jamaican Blue Mountains produce some of the best coffee in the world. I sat down with one of the few farmers of Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee and listened to his story of how he came to own some of the most sought after farmland. Look for more information on its release date.

New Website

The Calm Scribe Website is now official! Just go to, www.thecalmscribe.ca. As an added bonus, all past Story Cube Fridays are available on the site. Thank you for all of your support!

New Office

The Calm Scribe HQ is on the move and will have its own office space...in time. There may be a bit of delays and upheaval in my social media this next month as I prepare to move into a new house and temporary office. Shortly after, construction will begin on the official Calm Scribe Office and I will keep you all updated on the progress. Work should start later this year!

Contests

As always, a new year brings a new batch of writing contests. While I entered the NYC Short Story challenge, life was too busy for me to do a submission. I made the tough choice of letting this contest go because I could not give it the time it deserved. The next email will have a list of contests upcoming and past, including one which may see the story turned into a film!

Projects On The Go

As you may have seen, I participated in Bell Let's Talk this year, to discuss mental health. I shared that I battle Anxiety, Depression, and PTSD. This year will see me further discussing my mental health struggles and my physical disabilities, all of which I was left with after a severe accident. I hope to inspire others to see that even the darkest days get better.

I have been approached by a Film-maker interested in turning one of my short stories into a film. Communications have begun and I will keep you all updated on the progress.

Recently I was approached by new organizations interested in my writing and possibly having me write for them. As usual, details to come.

All That's Left Behind went through its test reading and is now beginning to move into the editing process.

This year will see me focus more on articles and opinion pieces, along with my usual stories. Follow me on Wattpad and LinkedIn to stay up-to-date.

Recommendations of the month:

iNaturalist:

Have you ever looked at a bug or a flower and wondered what in the world it was? iNaturalist helps with that issue. Open the app and take a photo to be shown what it is. The best part is you can geo-tag the photo and help Nature Conservancy in Canada. Look for my profile to see which species I have catalogued.

Book Challenge 2017 & 2018:

Next newsletter will have an accounting of my books read from the 2017 Reading Challenge. Spoiler, I did not hit all 26. In the meantime go to my website and download your own copy of the 2018 Reading Challenge.

Tip of the month: Zooniverse.org

Zooniverse remains the tip of the month.

A current project helps chimpanzees by analyzing hidden camera footage. Go to Zooniverse.org to see how you can help.

Other projects on Zooniverse...
  • Help measure astronomical data
  • Help conserve wildlife
  • Transcribe historical documents (Civil War journals, Shakespeare journals, etc.
  • Count bees and help protect them
  • Track animal migrations
  • Many other fun and fascinating tasks
What to share the Calm Scribe Newsletter? Go ahead! Please forward this message to anyone who might be interested.

Don't forget, your local library can be a great resource. When was the last time you visited?

That is it for this month's newsletter, thank you for your continued support.
