Kneemail from Saint James Church

____ ___, AD 2017

February 21, AD 2017

FROM THE RECTOR:

Dear Parishioners and Friends of St James’,

Have you made ongoing Christian education part of your Lenten discipline?

Even though it’s raining today, the Great Hall and Church are warm and dry for our Wednesday evening program.  Lauren Hehmeyer, a St. James’ parishioner and history professor at Texarkana College, is offering a three part series on Wednesday nights in Lent. “What a Christian Needs to Know: Islam (Feb 21), Hinduism (Feb 28), and Buddhism (March 7).  Why does that Hindu god have so many arms? Why do Muslims travel to Mecca? Was Buddha a real person? Your questions will finally be answered!

Yours with every blessing,

Rev. Douglas Anderson, Rector

UPCOMING EVENTS AND ITEMS OF PARTICULAR NOTE

A WORD ABOUT PANHANDLERS.  Being a downtown church, from time to time, panhandlers may approach you after Mass, looking for money.  In such a case, it is best that you refer them to the clergy.  We have the ability to respond to their needs in an appropriate way, and oftentimes can identify those whom we have already helped.  St James’ gives generously to those in need in our community, but it is best that we do this in a systematic way.

CANCELLATION.  Due to a change in the Bishop’s schedule, Pub Theology, originally set for Saturday, February 28th has been cancelled.  We are working on a new date.

Explore! Anglican Essentials.  Are you interested in exploring what it means to be an Anglican Christian?  This is our annual inquirer’s class for those considering (there is no obligation) membership at St James’ and Confirmation / Reception into the Anglican Communion, and refresher for everyone else!  We will begin on Sunday, March 18th (Lent I) in the Great Hall at 9am.
