VACCINATION CAMPAIGN AGAINST YELLOW FEVER
The World Health Organization
published a press release on February 16 regarding the state of yellow fever in Brazil. In addition, the World Water Forum organizers wish to inform participants that they
must all have an injection against the yellow fever and bring a proof that the shot has been taken for the competent authorities.
The Brazilian Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization both recommend that the vaccine
should be taken ten days before arrival in the risk areas. Please note that the yellow vaccine no longer needs to be administered after 10 years, it is now effective for over 30 years. (For more information, visit
WHO’s Yellow Fever page.)
The certificate can be acquired at an official yellow fever vaccination center as designated by the state health departments in your city. The vaccine must be manufactured under approval of the World Health Organization.
Please check with your local health authority for more information before travelling and make sure you bring your yellow vaccination card as it may be asked by Brazilian authorities upon arrival.
Political Process
The second PrepCom Meeting of the Political Process will take place on
27-28 February in Paris. After the first meeting held in December (to which some Butterfly Members took part as civil society representatives), organizations were given the opportunity to submit inputs and comments on the Zero Draft of the Ministerial Declaration.
In preparation of the 2
nd PrepCom, an
updated version of the Ministerial Declaration draft has been released as well as a
draft agenda for the meeting next week in Paris. The Butterfly Effect, which was present at the first meeting in December has submitted inputs on the Zero Draft as well as
specific messages for the Political Process.
If you wish to contribute to the updated Ministerial Declaration draft, please share with us your inputs and comments by Monday February 26 at
butterflyeffectcoalition@gmail.com.
The Butterfly Effect will gladly share an update and some feedback following the 2nd PrepCom.
Sustainability Process
The Sustainability Process has drafted a
Sustainability Declaration.
Each World Water Forum is joined with a ministerial conference. The declaration of the ministerial conference is prepared through a diplomatic process. The forum is an unique opportunity to ensure that official representatives of countries around the world are fully aware of the concerns and commitments of local authorities, academics, professionals and the NGO’s.
For the first time, the organizers of the 8th World Water Forum expressed the will of issuing a declaration directly reflecting the debates and results obtained during the forum. This declaration, called
SUSTAINABILITY DECLARATION (SD), is supposed to be adopted by consensus before the end of the forum and adopted during the closing session of the Forum on Friday March 23rd.
Both declaration will be elaborated simultaneously, with bridges and exchanges. Presumably the SD, as a direct expression of the stakeholders involving all the civil society taking part will address issues and concerns more directly and less diplomatically.
