Blessing for Lent
May Christ send you out to glory in his cross, and live no longer for yourselves but for him who died and was raised to life for us. And the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be upon you and remain with you always. Amen.

FROM THE OUTREACH COMMITTEE
FOOD WITH DIGNITY for Page Smith Community House Residents
Ever wonder who that food is for in the wicker basket that sits at entryway and gets taken to the altar as part of the offering? It is food for Page Smith Community House Residents, part of the Homeless Services complex.
It is a transitional housing program that provides up to 18 months of supportive transitional housing to 40 individual men and women. The average length of stay is 12 to 14 months. The program provides homeless adults the opportunity to apply for benefits, attain employment, save money, repair or establish a rental history, and take other important steps toward stability, while receiving intensive case management and other support services. There is some limited kitchen space for their use.
Bob White, a devoted 8 o’clocker, started inviting people to donate to this and subsequently taking the resulting donations to Page Smith himself. Bob was ailing for a while, the past year or so, and other volunteers have stepped up to do the delivery.
Some people have just developed the habit of buying “extra” to put in the basket for the Page Smith Community and now you all can be a part of that. While you may have “given up” some particular (and probably unnecessary for life) treat for Lent, how about giving away some food to those who need it. There are detailed lists of recommended foods on the usher’s table for a few weeks, meanwhile, here are the general guidelines:
Page Smith Community House -
Suggestions for donations and buying tips:
- Please donate recently purchased food, not outdated or stale.
- Purchase 1 or 2 person size servings; not bulk items
- Canned/ microwavable and other shelf stable items good
- Quick cooking whole grains and rice also good.
- High quality, high protein, lower fat, salt and sugar, better for all of us

NEW LOOK!
The new design was just posted this week. This is the first time our website has had a "facelift" since around 2011. Thanks to Chrys Sparks for doing the design work and putting her creative spin on things. We're still working on updating all the pictures and content, so if you find something outdated that needs to be fixed, send an email to Chrys at admin@st-john-aptos.org.
After we finish the overall update, Bart Coddington will continue as our webmaster in keeping the site up to date from day to day. You can reach him at bikerbart@sbcglobal.net.

You Shop. Amazon Gives to St. John's
Our friend Bart Coddington reminds us to please consider signing up for Amazon Smile. This is a program that Amazon offers to donate a small percentage of your purchases to St. John’s. It does not cost you any additional charges. Click here if you are interested in learning more or getting started.
Or go to Amazon, log into your account and search for the Amazon Smile sign up page. Choose Episcopal Church of St John The Baptist Aptos California as your designated beneficiary.
Whenever you go to Amazon to buy something, make sure you start at https://smile.amazon.com/ . Then log into your account and you should be good to go. Each time you log in a popup window will appear that says the following "Now when you shop at smile.amazon.com, your purchases will support Episcopal Church of St John The Baptist Aptos California." among other things.
