9 Days of Impro and Matthew Passion

Last week we taught and played all-over, enjoyed and learned so much, visiting Germany, the Conservatory of Amsterdam, organising our Schubertiade and more!

And yet, we are already gearing towards our next event:
"Matthew Passion After Hours". Read more about this below!

Matthew Passion After Hours

Bach was known as a great improviser. We can't miss him in our sessions! Since the Matthew Passion has an almost untouchable, relic-like status in The Netherlands, it seems like the perfect place to add some ornamental Scrolls.

We will combine work we did earlier on the Passacaglia with an introduction to improvising on the beginning of the chorale "O Haupt voll Blut und Wunden"

2X Bach in Thüringer Bachwochen

4 April - Tafelmusik in Weimar
5 April - Bach's Workshop in Bachhaus Eisenach

This year's festival is devoted to the worldly Bach and we are very proud to be there with no less than 2 concerts (on the bill also Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, Bach Collegium Japan and Jordi Savall to name a few).

We will present Bach's Workshop there, bringing together a few years of devotion to Bach's music, including our Goldberg Suite, Concerto, Inventions with branches from the audience and "An Wasserflüssen Babylon".

In the other event we are providing 'Tafelmusik", music for the dinner table. On the table a menu contemporary to Bach! The programme we are presenting here for the first time travels through different collections of table music, giving as always our own versions and interpretations.

Game of Themes

14 April - Orgelpark Amsterdam
Guest star - Patrick Ayrton

As early as in Ancient Greek, competitions in music were already common place. Often these competitions included improvisations. For example, to win the post of organist somewhere, you had to show your improvisatory prowess. Mozart competed with several fellow musicians and of course Bach's opponent Marchand never showed up!

In perhaps our most daring programme yet, we are taking the risk up another notch with the audience competing with our cards, a 'singing' competition and sports commentators!
More information here and more yet soon!

Don't forget to visit us March 10th in The Hague for our first ever Silent Film concert!!! We are looking forward to it tremendously, because we are accompanying a film of which the story actually takes place in the end of the 17th century!
