Banquet Committee Members Wanted - Learn More after the Feb. 25th Brunch!
A note from my highchair... Recovery is in the air and it smells like Alano Club coffee.
It is that time again…
First, I want to tell you about the election of members to fill the board of directors and their importance to the survival of the Elgin Alano Club.
Just as the AA legacies are necessary for the wellbeing of the fellowship, those same legacies insure the future of our club.
Recovery is the thing that brings us here in the first place. Sobriety requirements vary for the different board positions. With time comes stability and confidence needed to successfully perform these duties.
Unity means being able to attend the monthly board meetings and bring a progress report of your duties.
Service is rolling up your sleeves and taking pride in the condition of the club and helping make the events successful; not only in fund raising but also in carrying the message.
Anyone with an interest may review the requirements for the different positions as stated in the Club Bylaws. Contact myself or email board@elginalanoclub.com with interest.
Second, there have been some erroneous rumors going around about the club. What I have learned over the years is that there are some people who are anti-club. Maybe time will change them, I can’t. When asked about these rumors I say, “Come to the club and decide for yourself.” You know that we have a saying about ‘contempt prior to investigation.’ You can’t argue with a closed mind, well you can but I do not have the time.
“The club idea has become part of AA life. Scores of these hospitable havens can report years of useful service; new ones are being started monthly.”
This is from Language of the Heart, page 46. Bill wrote this in the April 1947 Grapevine. If you have not read this stellar book about our AA history, come on down to the club, we have copies that you can read… or have you already made up your mind about the Alano?
"Recovery is something like the restoration of a very old painting, covered over by layers and layers of darkening, distorted varnish ... Not all of the underlying pattern can be revealed at one time. What is uncovered, bit by bit and layer by slow, careful layer, are the things which are necessary and appropriate for me to know about myself right now."
