March Madness at SDBC Pickleball

Our inaugural Spring Pickleball Tournament at SDBC turned out to be a lot of fun, for both participants and spectators. For those of us who were spectators, we saw some very good pickleball at Advanced, Intermediate, and Advanced Beginner levels of play. Some incredible shots were made but, more importantly, there was great effort by everyone. It was a pleasure to watch those we have played against each week make the step into a competitive situation. For many, this was their very first tournament.

I think many of us also enjoyed the skills challenge held after the final game. I was told that the mini chocolate bars were much sought after, as spectators joined in with the competitors to test their skills in hitting the different targets. Kudos goes to Joey M. who braved the pickleballs fired at him while he was perched on his chair, inside the "kitchen." At one point, there must have been twenty pickleballs heading his way, all at the same time.

Mario and his team, made up of Nicola, Betty, and George, prepared an outstanding selection of fresh sandwiches while play was going on. At lunch, it was great to sit down and carry on an extended conversation with fellow pickleballers, without being interrupted by the word "COURT!"

Our winning teams will be able to enjoy a fine pasta dish or pizza with their gift cards for the brand new restaurant, Il Posto, located in downtown Ladner. Many thanks also to Dave K., Anne K., and Ray R. for their generous donations to our draw for tournament participants.

Men's Breakfast with Travis Lulay

Men, if you are interested in football, we have special guests Travis Lulay, quarterback of the BC Lions, and Dave Klassen, chaplain of the BC Lions and director of Athletes in Action, joining us for our annual Men’s Breakfast being held on Saturday, April 21st at 8:30 AM at SDBC. Mario and Brenda will be making a hearty breakfast that you will not want to miss. For further information on Travis Lulay and this event please click here.

Tickets: Our pickleball committee has reserved three tables for men coming to SDBC Pickleball, along with any family or friends they wish to invite. Tickets will be $12 if ordered through pickleball@southdelta.org (attention Dave), or they can reserve a seat at each session up until Monday, April 16th.

Senior Scene Luncheons

Senior Scene Luncheons are for senior couples, singles, widows, and widowers from within our church, seniors residences, and the community. Come enjoy a home-style lunch, uplifting music, and warm fellowship while learning principles of life from the bible through various speakers and musicians. Luncheons take place every third Tuesday of each month at 11:30AM. Suggested donation of $5. Lunch is free if you are a first-time visitor.
