President's Message:
Show season has officially begun, with members showing and watching the excitement in Scottsdale AZ. It is time to sign up for the WAHA point system and legion programs, and get involved with youth judging.

Hunter Offord, AHYA Secretary and former WAHA youth member, will be leading our youth this year. We are excited to have her involved and hope to continue to grow the youth programs.

Committees are hard at work! WAHA’s first event of 2018 will be the Spring Open Show at Bound’s Showtime Arena. The class list is already available. Other shows this year include the Badger Classic, WAHA August Show and Fall Open Show. We have a clinic in the planning stages, and are bringing back a member trail ride.

I hope you will get involved, by participating in an event, volunteering at a show or joining a committee. I look forward to working with all of you!

Sincerely,
Lerin Hendrickson
WAHA President

Clarifications from USEF
Submitted by Nyssa Sheridan

Recently on social media, there have been some confusion regarding a couple of things, including ranch riding and cross entering pleasure classes and current US Equestrian microchip rules.

I reached out to US Equestrian for clarification on these two matters.

There had been a discussion that participants in Arabian Ranch Riding could not cross enter into Arabian Western Pleasure classes and vice versa.  This is not correct.  Riders can exhibit horses in both Arabian Ranch Riding and Arabian Western Pleasure classes.

Quoted from my email correspondence:

"The Arabian division rules for Ranch Horse Riding does not prohibit cross entries between other sections (AR220).

There may be some confusion due to the new Ranch Horse Riding rules within the Western Chapter of the USEF rulebook (WS138.3). WS138.3 states “No horse may cross enter a western pleasure and ranch riding class at the same show regardless of division (youth, amateur, open). Please note this rule (WS138.3) does not apply to the Arabian division as it falls outside of the Arabian chapter rules and the Arabian Ranch Horse Riding rules do not refer to the Western chapter."

There also has been some confusion about recently announced microchip requirements for US Equestrian, implying that all horses needed to be microchipped for competition.

Currently the rule only applies to horses competing in USHJA competitions. At this point, there is no plan to implement the chips for any other breed or discipline. If this changes, there will be announcements made, per US Equestrian.

US Equestrian can be reached M-F 8:30a.m. to 5p.m. ET at 859-258-2472 for additional clarification on either of the above points if necessary.

Happy riding!
