"Today was a day I will remember forever. It was nothing spectacular, it was actually simple, humble... just quietly magical. Today was the first day of school for my daughter, and the very first day of school for Port Macquarie Steiner School. There isn't a single photo to show, because there wasn't a phone or a camera in sight. Parents sat stitching special coloured wool to their children's little gardening gloves, while the children slowly warmed to the room and to each other, gradually without any force or pressure, with parents present but focused on their task. I feel honoured to have been in that room today, there was a quiet unspoken magic, a glow, a warmth which felt much like a home. I knew as I stitched purple wool to my daughter's glove, that she will always be nurtured here, heard and supported, that she will blossom because of the goodness of those around her. That she will learn because she wants to learn, because she feels inspired to learn and do and create. And her teacher will learn her ways, and honour her for who she is and not who or what she should be.
