Heart Health Month
 
February is American Heart Health month. Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death among both men and women in the U.S. In Oxford County, heart disease attributed to over 700 deaths among those under the age of 75 in 2017 (County Health Ranking, 2017).

You can make healthy changes to lower your risk of developing heart disease. Controlling and preventing risk factors is also important for people who already have heart disease. To lower your risk:
  • Watch your weight.
  • Quit smoking and stay away from secondhand smoke.
  • Control your cholesterol and blood pressure.
  • If you drink alcohol, drink only in moderation.
  • Get active and eat healthy
    
Coalition Meetings

HOH Community Coalition meetings are held monthly from 11:45a-1:00p on the 4th Tuesday at the Harper conference Center, Ripley Medical Office Building, SMH. The meetings offer an opportunity for community health organizations to build partnerships that improve the quality of life for Oxford Hills citizens. To register, call the HOH office at 739-6222.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 27th.
Indoor Walking Group
 

Join Stephens Memorial Hospital every Tuesday and Thursday to beat the winter blues with our indoor walking program. This program, led by Debi Verrill, Executive Assistant at Stephens Memorial Hospital and Lorie Olson, Maine native and avid hiker, will encourage you to enjoy the benefits of walking and staying active during the cold winter months. 

This class for all walking levels and will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays, at the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School from 4:45 pm to 5:45 pm. Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes, bring water and join us for the Health of It! This series is free to all, but registration is required.
