YouTube Search Statistics

YouTube search
  • YouTube is the world’s second largest search engine and third most visited site after Google and Facebook. (As reported by Brandwatch)
  • YouTube accounts for 28 percent of total searches on Google (December, 2009, ComScore). This is old data that we suspect to be MUCH higher today.
  • Niche topic videos get a ton more traffic from YouTube than broad topic videos. (Source: Google)
  • Most important signals YouTube uses for search rank (Source: Search Engine Watch):
    - Title tag information
    - Audience retention
    - Keywords in description tag
    - Tags
    - Video length
    - Number of subscribers after watching
    - Comments
    - Likes and dislikes (I would dispute this last one as I've seen reported multiple times that YouTube does not take into account "likes and dislikes" in their search ranking because that's a variable that can be easily gamed.)

Tips for Surviving a Massive Social Media Meltdown

After Their Massive Social Media Fail, What Should Security Firm Cygilant Do Now?
Cybersecurity firm Cygilant had a massive social media meltdown two weeks ago. They took a "Be like Trump" approach and chose to attack well-known and well-respected security researchers as "wannabe" infosec pros. Instead of immediately apologizing for their bad behavior, they doubled-down, continued to insult, and used the popularity of the attacks as a social media "win" and a lesson to others on how you do marketing. That's not how the rest of us saw it. The industry tore them apart. Cygilant issued two weak apologies, and then after this article was published on Forbes they issued a third much better apology referencing items mentioned in this article, such as the need to check their "values." This is a worthwhile article to check out if you ever have an online meltdown, and need to know how to bounce back, possibly even stronger than before.
