ABOUT THE ARAB FILM FEST 2018 TOUR:
Anti-Muslim, anti-Arab, and anti-immigrant sentiments are nothing new, but at this political and cultural moment, they have reached a dangerous fever pitch. How do we work against this hateful rhetoric? Film has the power to connect people to one another's stories and generate empathy in a powerful way. In the spring 2018, Mizna will bring independent Arab cinema to six Minnesota college campuses and the neighborhoods they call home. At each location, we will screen one selection from the best of our previous festivals, covering a range of forms, nationalities, and subjects.
All students, neighborhood residents, and Minnesotans are welcome to engage with these authentic narratives by contemporary Arab filmmakers. Deepening connections across community and campus, these screenings will be held at Macalester College , Hamline University, St. Catherine University, Concordia University, Metropolitan State University, and the College of St. Benedict/St. John's University. Some screenings TBD will be followed by a post-screening discussion engaging audiences with local Arab and Muslim thinkers and creatives, delving into the aesthetics and critical topics brought up by the film.

News from Hamline Midway Elders
Knitting Group – Mondays from 1 to 3 pm at Hamline Church United Methodist
Hamline Midway Elders provides the yarn and needles along with some light snacks. The participants work on projects, such as making shawls to be donated to a local hospice or blankets for a child care center. But it has also become a nice social gathering for a group of 8-10 elders and new participants are welcome.
Reading Buddy – 1st & 3rd Wednesdays from 10:45 to 11:30 am at Hamline Elementary School
Our partnership with Hamline Elementary School and the Reading Buddy Program continues twice a month during the school year. The third grade students enjoy reading to neighborhood elders and the older adults love the interaction with the children. No experience is needed, we're just looking for older adults with a desire to interact with third grade students
Last day this Thursday!
Chair Yoga – Thursdays thru February 22 from 10:30 to 11:30 am at Hamline Midway Library
Sitting in a chair or standing using the chair for support, you’ll learn fundamentals of yoga postures and breathing, practice techniques to release tension in mind and body, and begin building strength and flexibility. New participants are welcome to join this free series led by Nancy Giguere at any time.
Jody’s Documentary Film Series – Wednesday, February 28 at 1 pm at Hamline Midway Library
This POV film titled What I Want My Words To Do To You goes inside a women’s writing workshop at a prison – see and hear how they got there and why. No registration is necessary for this last Wednesday of the month film series. So just come enjoy the documentary, some snacks and a lively discussion led by Jody Huber after the film.
