New video about our anti-FGM campaign

Film makers Athina Chatzidaki and Chris Bouchard are about to  release a short film about Friends of Kipkelion’s programme to eradicate FGM in Kipkelion. Athina and Chris travelled to Kipkelion in December 2017 and as part of their experiences were able to visit many of the alternative rites of passage courses which we support in collaboration with our partners, Brighter Communities Worldwide.  The film gives girls from Kipkelion the chance to have their say about FGM and why they oppose it – more details coming soon!

The Portraits Folk Concert

Acclaimed folk duo The Portraits will be performing an exclusive concert in aid of Friends of Kipkelion on Thursday 15 March. The event, which will also feature support artist Hannah White, will be held at The Harrison in London's Kings Cross, with doors open from 7pm. A few tickets are still available, click here for details.

Counting down to London Marathon 2018

The London Marathon is fast approaching, and we're thrilled that the race on Sunday 22 April will feature an entrant supporting Friends of Kipkelion!  French business student Arielle Rolland has taken up the challenge – she is a veteran of the Paris marathon and now wants to have a crack at the London event. Arielle is currently employed by Accenture UK and we’re hoping that her employer will match fund all donations she raises for Friends of Kipkelion.  Her fund raising page is here - show your support now!

2017 Big Give Results – Fighting FGM

Thanks to many generous donations, we smashed our target on the 2017 Big Give Christmas Challenge. The final total raised was a fantastic £8,820, including match funding of £4,000. All the money raised will go to support our continuing (and successful) campaign against FGM in Kipkelion - a big thank you to all those who contributed.

New Toilets, Washrooms and Menstrual Hygiene Programme at Soil Conservation Primary School

A year ago, we received an £8,000 grant from the Waterloo Foundation to build new toilets and washrooms and run a menstrual hygiene education programme for girls at a primary school in Kipkelion.  We and our partners, Brighter Communities, worked closely with the school on the implementation of this project, and the school was required to contribute a proportion of the project costs itself, with parents and local supporters helping out.  There are 150 girl pupils at the school ranging in age from six to 14, and many of them find it challenging to continue attending school after puberty.  The project has now been successfully completed: with the new toilets and washrooms and the provision of re-usable sanitary pads, all the girls can now attend school throughout the month
