What's Daylight Savings Got to Do with Your Yard?

You might think that this weekend's clock change is just a lost hour of sleep. But it's actually an important day for your lawn and landscaping.

Every March, Alachua County's irrigation restrictions change to accommodate the summer's rapid plant growth. You're able to use your irrigation system more often—twice a week, compared to once a week in the fall and winter.

Use the chart above to put your system in-line with County regulations.

Tips for hassle-free irrigation and sprinkler compliance:

  • Put your system on an automatic timer, so you don’t have to remember when to turn it on and off.
  • Make sure that no spray zones are overlapping or over-watering certain areas on your lawn.
  • Make sure you have a rainfall shut-off device (a.k.a. a rain sensor) attached to your system, which will interrupt sprinkler cycles when there’s been enough rain. Alachua County requires that all automatic sprinkler systems have a functioning rain sensor.

Professional irrigation checks are an easy way to confirm that you’re compliant with Alachua County’s rules and not wasting any water. Sun Power Lawn Care will identify and repair leaks, clogs, and pressure imbalances, among other common irrigation issues.
