Directors Report

With March now upon us it marks the last month of the 2017/18 season. Where have the days, weeks and months gone?
Of the 160 patrols we provide during the season, only 20 remain. Over 6000 volunteer hours have been spent patrolling Trigg Beach. Our lifesavers have again provided a first class service for all who visit our beach. Over the past few weeks it’s been great to see so many patrols with 100% attendance. These efforts not only ensure Trigg Beach is safe but ensures Trigg Islands long and distinguished history continues.
For our Surf Sports athletes it’s time to shine. Across all disciplines our athletes have spent thousands of hours enhancing their skills, strength and fitness. Next week it’s the Junior State Championships, 2 weeks until the Senior State Championships and 5 weeks until the Australian Surf Lifesaving Championships all to be held at Scarborough Beach, you will see Trigg athletes competing with, and beating the best surf life savers in the world.
For the athletes that may read this, if you do one thing between now, your respective State Championships and Sunday April 22, then make a commitment. Commit to your club, your preparation and to your team mates. Every time you tie up your red, white and green cap you’re racing for the 1150 members that make Trigg Island SLSC. Give every race your all, trust me, something amazing might just happen.
Good luck to all for the remainder of the season. Our lifesavers, our educators, our athletes and all of our volunteers have again made Trigg Island the greatest surf club in the west.

JUNIORS

Little Nipper State Championships

It was the inaugural SLSWA U8/9 Little Nipper State Championships last weekend at Sorrento Beach and our juniors shone brighter than the brightest stars.
Over 389 nippers came together from Regional and Metropolitan surf clubs and it was a sight to behold.
The morning started chilly but warmed up quickly, water conditions were pond-like :( but it meant participation was very high, and that’s the main aim of these events.
We had great numbers from Trigg and our juniors achieved 11 placings in the top five clocking up 3 gold medals and 3 silver medals. I’m sure that almost all the kids that competed will come back for more as there was plenty of smiles all round.
We would like to thank all coaches, officials, age group managers, water safety and parent helpers who assisted throughout the season at the Carnivals and Championships. All events ran smoothly thanks to your fantastic help and assistance.
The future is looking bright for Trigg.

SURF SPORTS

2018 State Belt Race Titles Saturday 10 March

The SLSWA State Belt Race Championships will take place at Sorrento Beach on Saturday 10 March commencing at noon. Competitors and Teams are required to be at Sorrento Beach by 11am for a warm up.
Our club has several teams competing and we are expecting good results. The teams have put in hours of training and are ready to do their club proud.
A special thanks to Bob Milne, a former club captain and successful state title holder, whom travels from Lesmurdie to pass on valuable knowledge to our competitors and to our ageless veteran Nat Morris (47 years young) whom finished 3rd in the open women's belt in 2016 and has decided to have another go, an inspiration to all.
Our sincere thanks to the surf boat crew whom volunteered to help out by becoming belt team members for the day. A wonderful gesture on their behalf and greatly appreciated as we were short on team numbers. Their support not only gives competitors additional confidence it also shows we are one club in all areas.
Your support for the Belt race competitors and the skilful lines teams would be greatly appreciated.

Good luck to all!
