The EUF Council of Rectors has unanimously welcomed the Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) in the EUF network. ELTE is a prestigious institution of public higher education in Budapest, Hungary, operating continuously since 1635. As a top-ranked university in Hungary, it is the most popular higher education institution among applicants as well as alma mater of five Nobel laureates and leading figures in technology, public policy, and culture in Hungary. Currently, about 27,000 students study at eight faculties at ELTE with about 3,000 international students from over 80 countries. The EUF and ELTE have cooperated in the past in the framework of the HousErasmus+ and Online Learning Agreement projects. The whole network warmly welcomes our new colleagues and looks forward to strengthening cooperation!
11th Council of Rectors meeting.
The annual meeting took place on the 7th of March in Prague. Member university representatives gathered to review the 2017 activity and financial report and evaluated our tremendous evolution during the 3-year mandate of the outgoing EUF Steering Committee. Composed of the University of Alcalá (represented by Vice-Rector Miguel Ángel Sotelo), the University of Latvia (represented by Vice-Rector Ina Druviete) and the University of Vienna (represented by Vice-Rector Heinz Fassmann), the Steering Committee has provided a dynamic leadership to the network. We also held a debate with Ms Vanessa Debiais-Sainton, Acting Head of Unit B1, DG EAC, European Commission, on the initiative aimed at setting up 20 European university networks by 2024. Finally, the participants elected the new EUF Steering Committee: Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (represented by Vice-Rector Ariadni Stogiannidou), University of Latvia (represented by Vice-Rector Ina Druviete) and the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne (represented by Vice-President Maria Gravari-Barbas). The EUF warmly thanks the Charles University for their extraordinary welcome and for the invitation to attend the prestigious inauguration ceremony of the second mandate of Rector Prof. Tomas Zima.
Erasmus going digital info day.
The Erasmus Going Digital conference will take place at the Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest on April 24th and will focus on illustrating the impact of Erasmus Without Paper, the Erasmus+ App as well as the Online Learning Agreement on the Erasmus+ mobility. During the event, we will present a live demo of the digital tools and introduce the Erasmus+ App, discuss the Erasmus Without Paper network and also present an online version of the traditional Learning Agreement. Participants are warmly invited to get acquainted with the tools beforehand — all tools for students are freely available. Register until March 31st.
Join the trending blended learning.
This Blended Erasmus+ Trainings is part of the BEST+ course on international student experience and combines eLearning and a 3-day event in Lodz, the "city of four cultures", in Poland. After Riga and Joensuu, the third edition of this 3-day event offers a combination of networking, peer-learning, training and social activities guided by our professional staff. You will learn about different aspects of international student experience from both institutional and student perspectives. The physical training will take place from the 22nd of May to the 24th of May at the

LLLP Education and Culture debate.
On March 14th, in the framework of the European Year of Cultural Heritage and together with Culture Action Europe, the Lifelong Learning Platform, the EUF and several civil society organisations carried out a debate about European eduction and culture. Numerous stakeholders and high-level policy makers convened at the BOZAR to discuss and explore the potential of diverse learning environments, including how learning mobility can enhance cultural awareness and shared values. Several break-out sessions were also organised to discuss such issues in greater detail and to collect insights on how to bridge the gap between education and culture from the perspective of formal, non-formal and informal education. Speakers included the acting Director General of DG EAC, Mr Jens Nymand Christensen, and Ms Erna Hennicot-Schoepges, former Minister of Education, Culture and Research of Luxembourg.
Erasmus Salons: meet us for a chat.
A wide range of ideas and proposals are swirling regarding the desired changes for the next embodiment of the current Erasmus+ programme. This is a vital question for European integration, and specifically for European students and universities. Accordingly, the EUF and its partners are launching a series of informal debates on key issues connected with student mobility in Europe with a view to shape the post 2020-agenda of the Erasmus+ programme. Promoting the Open Source Alliance.
The Coimbra Group AEM convened in Brussels on February 15th, a meeting the EUF joined to present the latest developments on Digitising Erasmus+. The EUF and the Coimbra Group are members of the Open Source University Alliance Steering Committee and both organisations share a strategic interest in devising inclusive ways to enable the modernisation of European Higher Education. The discussion focused on understanding how can universities best adapt to new requirements and challenges. Participants welcomed the notion of pooling resources and expertise at the European level, and each was asked to ascertain whether their own university will be willing to lead by example.
GDN's 7th Annual Meeting.
Registrations are open for the Groningen Declaration event 2018. The Age of Opportunity: Privacy, Trust and Learner Mobility is the theme for the Groningen Declaration Annual Meeting which will be held in Paris from the 18th to the 20th of April. Erasmus+ mid-term evaluation.
The 2014-2020 Erasmus+ programme and its predecessor programmes (2007-2013) have provided millions of people in with opportunities to learn, volunteer or teach abroad. It is one of the EU's best-known successes. This mid-term evaluation of Erasmus+ looks at the current programme until the end of 2016 and also includes an evaluation of the long-term effects of the predecessor programmes.
Teaching careers in Europe.
Eurydice has published a new report on Teaching Careers in Europe: Access, Progression and Support. The main themes include: forward planning and main challenges in teacher supply and demand, entry to the teaching profession and teacher mobility, continuing professional development and support, career development, and teacher appraisal.
