Welcome to our e-newsletter!

We've packed a lot into this issue.  We hope you find it useful and informative. Your suggestions and comments are always welcome.
News and Notes
The used book sale, a scheduled closing, and the long-awaited return of our digitized newspapers.
Adult Programs
We are delighted to announce two new series beginning in April.  The Staged Readings series, presented in partnership with the Howmet Playhouse, begins on April 11, and will be an opportunity for area residents to weigh in on what they would like to see on stage.  The White Lake Needs Small Business series begins on April 19, and will offer an informal way to get acquainted with the people who own and operate the businesses so vital to our community.  These events are free, and everyone is welcome.
A not-so-serious roundtable discussion with the owners of Fetch Brewing is planned for Thursday, April 19, at 6:30 p.m.  Light refreshments will be served (but sadly, no beer).
Winter Programs for Kids and Teens
Family Nights will be finishing up this month, with the last one scheduled for March 15.  Baby Time  and Play & Learn continue through the end of April, but there will be no programs the week of March 19 due to the used book sale.  Spring Break plans so far include a drop-in craft, a free movie, and a free kids’ carnival sponsored by the Friends.  More details coming soon.  Last but not least, there will be no Teen Gaming on Friday, March 30, as the library will be closed that day.

News from the Friends

At their February meeting, the Friends voted to donate $1,000 to the children’s summer reading program and $400 for adult programming.  They are also planning a free carnival for area kids on the Saturday of Spring Break week, April 7.  Thank you, Friends!

From the Director's Corner

Spring is teasing us with hints of “green”.  Your library is again becoming greener too.  In March, we will install over 300 LED tubes in the main area.  Smaller areas already have LEDs. The brightness should allow us to eliminate some bulbs as well, saving energy as well as cost as we go forward.  We took advantage of the Consumers Energy rebate program for 3 years in a row to get this done, starting with the parking lot, then the work area and smaller rooms.  Now only the meeting room remains.

More adult programs are being planned, so watch our calendar.  April 11 at 6:30, we partner with Howmet Playhouse for the first of several free staged readings of scripts.  This first one will be The Man From Earth.

April 19 at 6:30 we kick off a series called White Lake Needs Small Business—in not-so-serious sessions with local small biz owners/operators.  Our first evening will be with Dan and Jen Hain, owners/operators of Fetch Brewing Company.  Discover how they pursued their dream and see behind-the-scenes operations.  Laugh with them through their learning curves along the way.

Our spring book sale is coming.  March 22 we open from 5-6 pm for Friends of the Library then 6-8 for all patrons.  March 23 we open 10 am – 4 pm and March 24 is 10 am to 3 pm with the whole day $2/bag (ours or yours).  As usual, we will have the Treasures books and gift items.  Check out the back room for those.

The digitized newspapers dating back to 1874 can now be accessed online from any computer at the library or at home.  The platform is a little different so if you need help, just ask the staff.

Finally, thank you to everyone who donated to the Texas library.  Our donated items (5 full boxes of books and a cash donation) are on their way.  The Texas library is so grateful for all the help after such devastation.

Spring is coming!!
Shelley Williams
