A Place Where Cultures Come Together

One of the things that drew us to LifeBridge and continues to be one of the things we love the most is that it bring people from all over the world, from different cultures, and different backgrounds, together.  There is a richness in this that I think is hard to find elsewhere.

Multiculturalism throws away the idea of perfection and creates something unique. We are privileged to have 20+ nations represented on any given Sunday. So, what does that look like on a Sunday morning? It's being greeted by Tracy (South African) as you enter the theatre, welcomed by our worship leader, Josh (Chinese-Panamanian), encouraged to sing a joyful noise by Dalan (British Virgin Islands), worship team member. It's catching up with Herman (Netherlands) after the service and making plans to attend our monthly brunch next week at Leilah and Khalil's (Peruvian/Brazilian and Algerian). And THIS is the nations coming together with the commonality of one thing: Jesus Christ and having a relationship with him.

Our Cultural Transition

Ten months in and we can definitely say we have made progress (Yayy!!). Upon arriving, the task of assimilating seemed very daunting.  For me (Jendi) I especially found the language and the idea of getting around this city near impossible.  I have been put outside my comfort zone constantly, but now I can look back and see the progress.  We both have Spanish tutors that we meet with twice a week. We are grateful for our time with them and it's been a blessing to not only learn from them but also create a relationship with them.  Nate often shares his sermon with his teacher, who now is constantly asking questions about the Bible. We are grateful for what the season of our life is teaching us, for God's grace and presence through each situation.
Our awesome Spanish teachers, Kathrine and Raquel.

Days in the Rainforest

As many of you know, Nate has been involved with the Outdoor Action program at Cairn University for a few years.  This year, they came to Panama! Nate had the opportunity to spend the week with the group and help lead them through a 4 day hike in the Chiriqui region of Panama as well as Scuba Dive on the Caribbean coast. This may sound dreamy but when the hike included mud to your knees for 3 days, you can imagine how challenging it was. A challenging week but Nate was grateful for the time in nature and time with students as well as co-leader/friend, Stephen.

In each newsletter we will share a tid-bit about Panamanian life. Something unique, interesting or fun.

It's summer here! And no, not just because it's hot and sunny. Here in Panama the months of January-April (roughly) are considered summer. This is because it is also dry season and the most ideal time of year here. Panamanian schools are off and many families vacation during this time. It's definitely a shift in our minds to consider these months the summer months, but we are enjoying great weather and little rain. We thoroughly enjoyed having two former students coming to visit us this "summer".

Praise & Prayer

We deeply appreciate your prayers for us and LifeBridge.

  • Praise that our LifeGroups are growing. In April we will start 2 women's groups.
  • Pray for Easter Sunday. For those who will find themselves at LifeBridge for the first time that they would feel welcomed and loved.
  • Pray that more people would step and and volunteer. We are looking to grow our volunteer base over the coming months.
  • Pray that Nate and Jendi would have wisdom as they lead. Pray that they would lean on Christ for direction and discernment.
Thank you for you prayers and support!
