Editor's Note: Once again, this week is dominated by the attack on our rights from both the gun ban lobby and, it seems, the President, who assured us in 2016 he supported the Second Amendment.  Earlier in the week he talked about how law enforcement should be able to remove the guns from someone thought to be a danger to themselves or others and worry about due process later.  Today we see a story in the Wall Street Journal where he has walked back much of what he said earlier in the week.  While support for more restrictions usually increases after events like the Florida school shooting, there are some troubling numbers in a poll released yesterday by YouGov.   If you have not already done so, please contact the White House and your senators and congressmen and ask them to oppose all gun control schemes that would only impact law-abiding gun owners.

Virginia Democrats Continue to Push Gun Ban Policies Late in Session
VSSA
Even though all of the gun ban bills were killed before crossover, and the only way to get such a bill considered during the closing days of the General Assembly is for the Governor to send down a bill, they held a press conference yesterday pushing gun control. READ MORE

Two Richmond Area Gun Stores Have Long Standing Policy to Not Sell AR Rifles to Buyers Under 18
VSSA
I received an email from a VSSA member yesterday informing me that two local firearm retailers had a long standing policy of not selling AR style rifles to buyers under 21.  This was news to me so I did a quick search and sure enough I found this report from WRIC TV 8 where they decided to ask a couple of local gun stores their thoughts on the announcement by Dick's Sporting Goods to stop selling firearms to anyone under the age of 21, including shotguns and all rifles, in their stores. It’s Time for Real Talk about the Assault-Weapons ‘Ban’
National Review
It’s back. In the aftermath of the Parkland, Fla., school massacre, House Democrats are making another attempt at banning so-called assault weapons. A “supermajority” (156 of 193) of House Democrats have signed on, leaving no doubt as to the party’s move left on gun control. The bill, called the “Assault Weapons ban of 2018,” is a non-starter — at least so long as Republicans control the House — but it’s a mistake to simply write off any proposal backed so overwhelmingly by one side of the aisle. This debate isn’t going away.  READ MORE

Home Defense: Pistols vs. Shotguns vs. Rifles
NRA  Family
If you’re a gun owner, there will come a time when you’ll hear someone tell you to “just get yourself a shotgun for home defense.” The fact is, though, that pistols and rifles can be handy to have in a home-defense situation, just as much as shotgun is. The trick is knowing what each gun does well and what it doesn’t do well. READ MORE

Companies Drop ARs, NRA Support
The Tactical Wire
At this writing, at least fifteen companies including Delta and United airlines have dropped their support for the National Rifle Association’s members benefits programs. With that, every one of these companies has announced they don’t want to do business with more than five million NRA members. I’m thinking NRA members should grant their wish- in spades.  READ MORE

WaPo: Why Are Senate Dems Torpedoing Their Own Gun Bill?
HotAir.com
Answer: Because it might pass — and this tells you everything you need to know about Washington DC. When Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) first proposed the Fix-NICS act last November, he had four members of each party as sponsors, calling it “the most important piece of bipartisan guns legislation since Manchin-Toomey.” The bill would plug the gaps in reporting by federal agencies to the background-check system, failings that contributed to the fatal church shooting that month in Sutherland Springs, Texas.  READ MORE

Mass Killer Used 10 Round Magazines
Shall Not Be Questioned
Because they were easier to fit in his gym bag. You’d think this would be the end of that narrative, but you’d be wrong. New narrative: just think of how many lives were saved because he didn’t use those evil “high-capacity magazines” and “his gun jammed because he had to reload so much.” Even though in the Gifford’s shooting, the killer’s gun jammed because he was using an extended magazine that wasn’t designed for the gun.
