Hi <<First Name>> ~

What if we could lean into the possibilities of our future self to influence our present reality? What if we could bend time by thinking differently. By thinking with the end in mind and then acting as if we were already "there"?

J.K. Rowland, in The Prisoner of Azkaban, depicts Harry Potter doing just that.  Let me set the scene...

Harry Potter is at the edge of a lake, standing over the wounded body of his Godfather, Sirius. He’s alone, desperate for help and surrounded by swarms of Dementors, fiends who kill their prey by swallowing their souls with a "Dementor's Kiss". Harry manages to fend them off a while but he is out numbered and fading fast. The Dementors move in and Harry is inches away from a fate worse than death, when he sees a figure across the lake, performing an incantation.  This stranger conjures the Patronus Charm, which sends the fiends packing and Harry is saved.  It's only later that Harry learns that the mysterious rescuer was actually Harry himself in another Time dimension. In other words, Harry is saved by his future self!

In a similar way, can we mere muggles crush our soul-sucking demons and change the course of our own history?
I've been doing just that lately.  Not bending time, but showing up as my future self at auditions.  In other words, I've been showing up as an A-list actress who uplifts hearts for a living!  I start by consciously changing my self talk.  Instead of saying " Oh crap! Here's yet another under-five audition. When will I ever get considered for a guest star role?"  I think:  “Hello assistant casting director, you may not know this yet but... I’m actually an award-winning crossover character actress who guest stars and plays series regulars on TV.  So nice to meet you!”

Am I crazy? Well a little bit, but that’s not the point. The point is, I’m not waiting for anyone else to validate me. I am validating my own potential first, and acting as if I already am the person I wish to be. And boy, it changes everything!  It changes how I dress;  how I prepare; how I walk in the room;  how I carry myself; and how I respect my work afterwards. And when the soul-sucking Dementors in my own mind swarm me with all the reasons why my dreams will never happen, I pull out my magic wand and  cast those demons out. (Expecto Patronum, Baby!)

Leaning into the potential of my future self and trusting that I didn't have to push or embellish my performance was how I booked my largest to date TV role! I'm excited to announce that I am featured on Episode 10 of the new season of Jessica Jones, which drops this week, Thursday March 8, on Netflix !   All I'm allowed to tell you is that I play a creepy chemist. You'll recognize me in my white lab coat and strange silver bouffant hairdo.

Thank you for reading my musings and being part of my tribe.
