new music @ The Piano Mill on Easter Sunday

On the invitation of Clocked Out composer Erik Griswold, I'm on the cusp of creating a score that conveys my ideas for metaMammaL - a new work for the Piano Mill, situated in the bush outside of Stanthorpe. While an audience gathers around outside the mill, musicians inside bring to life the sixteen 'found' pianos that form this remarkable mega-instrument, designed by architect Bruce Wolfe.

Come and take part in this vibrant event from 2-6pm on Sunday 1 April. Entry is free. Bookings are essential. Several other site-specific performances throughout the afternoon include premieres for the Piano Mill by composers Vanessa Tomlinson and Louise Denson.

Working with the themes of extinction and the piano as part of the fabric of Australian colonialism that the Mill evokes, metaMammaL is an empathic musical response to the human condition.

work-in-progress snapshot: waves of superimposed historical and well-known melodies usually associated with the piano and major keys swell and ebb atop an ever-returning minor modal pattern, threaded through with a recurring chant 'Mamma forgive us, for we do not know what we are doing' and 'Mamma, we know not what we are'. My arts practice and desire to share the living form of Relational Wholebody Focusing that comes through my continuing work with mentor and colleague Karen Whalen are reconfiguring anew.
