DFEL NEWSLETTER MARCH/APRIL 2018

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed it's the only things that ever has.
 Margaret Mead.

What a few days! I hope you and yours are all safe and well. As I write the roads are just being cleared by tractors and shovels by people from across the county, farmers, council workers, rowers, Rotarians, rugby players - you name it folk are out and about making sure everyone is safe, warm and fed. It's been quite a remarkable few days but East Lothian has really shown what a great county we are as communities east and west have got stuck in. We have many people to thank and hopefully warmer days when we can celebrate community.

We had to postpone the start of our Community Sensory Garden until 10.30 - 12 noon on 28th March at Cockenzie House and Gardens. We want this to be for the whole community so come along and let's get this garden started!  We're also looking for people interested in working with Knox Academy, Dunbar Grammar and Dunbar Fashion School on a  new project. If you are living with dementia or are a family member or friend please get in touch.

Coming up a workshop on designing dementia - Design for Life: How design can transform your life. 13 March, The Vallis Room, North Berwick Library. 10.30 - 12pm.

Thank you to everyone for extra special kindness and neighbourliness over the last few days. Let's make sure we build on the new friendships we've made through what for many people would have been a scary and lonely time without the comfort of neighbours and kindness of strangers.

Cheers,
Sue & Elaine :-)

SUPPORTING EACH OTHER
If you've attended one of the Memory Courses with Adult Mental Health Team & DFEL, you'll know that spending time with people in the same boat can make a huge difference. The Memory Courses now end with a light lunch so folk get to know each other a bit more. We also invite people who've been to a previous course to join us and that helps build even more friendships.

OUR COMMUNITY KITCHEN
Our Community Kitchen meets every Tuesday in the Star Room at the John Gray Centre 1pm  - 2.30. You are very welcome to join us. You can bring food to share or simply enjoy the delights of home cooking.  But watch this space for a change of location and even more chances to eat  and enjoy time together......  Coming Soon!
