Defeat Procrastination & Achieve Your Goals

Where in the World are Our Listeners?

This week we're giving a shout out to Napier, New Zealand. Napier is a seaport on the eastern coast of the North Island. Napier is the largest center of wool trade in the Southern Hemisphere. The area was originally settled around 1100 CE by the Maori Ngāti Kahungunu tribe, with Europeans arriving in the 19th Century. In 1945 a German U-boat entered and departed the port of Napier undetected and this gave rise to the story that the submarine crew snuck ashore at night to milk the local cows to supplement their dwindling rations.

Tip of the week

While you will need to manage your time if you hope to have a side gig, it's more important to manage your energy. If you're a morning person get your work done in the morning. If you're more of a night owl then get it done in the evening. Once you've picked the right time for you set modest goals of what you'll accomplish in any give day. Most people run out of energy to do productive work before they run out of time.

Look clever at a cocktail party

There are a lot of strange jobs out there, so if you're feeling stuck in a rut maybe consider one of the following? If you love weddings you could be a professional bridesmaid and make between $300 & $1,200 per event. If you have a hankering for the open sea you could become an iceberg mover (a popular business since the Titanic sank in 1912) or a dog surfing instructor. If those don't appeal you could be a professional snuggler, pet food taster or face feeler.

What are Ian, Darren & March up to this week?

  • Ian is testing out the Firefox Quantum browser to see if it lives up to the hype.
  • Darren is growing a beard - for no particular reason at all.
  • March is improving his flexibility using a stretching technique called Active Isolated Stretching.
Listen to an upcoming show to hear how our experiments went and what we learned!

How to Create a Million-Dollar Business This Weekend - Noah Kagan on Tim Ferriss's blog

"For some reason, people love to make excuses about why they haven’t created their dream business or even gotten started. This is the “wantrepreneur” epidemic, where people prevent themselves from ever actually doing the side-project they always talk about over beers. The truth of the matter is that you don’t have to spend a lot of time building the foundation for a successful business. In most cases, it shouldn’t take you more than a couple days…"
