Festival 2018

Festival 2018 will be our fifth annual walking festival and I am delighted to be able to announce that we will be celebrating the occasion by offering our largest ever walking programme.  The festival runs over the weekend of  8 - 10 June 2018 and there will be three walks on the Friday and twelve each on Saturday and Sunday.

The full detail of the Festival programme will be available shortly on the Corsham Walking Festival website.  As in previous years we have attempted to cater for all ages and levels of experience - with a free Children's Treasure Hunt for primary school age children, right up to a 20 mile walk to Little Solsbury Hill using a portion of the proposed Corsham Cloverleaf walk.  New walks for this year include:
Once again we will be holding a Quiz and Buffet Supper on the Saturday evening at the Springfield Campus.  Last year this was completely sold out - a tribute to the reputation of our resident quizmaster, and the excellence of the buffet provided by Elior Catering!

Booking opens on Tuesday 3rd April.  You can book via the Corsham Walking Festival website or from The Pound Arts Centre (Tel 01249 701628) during normal box office hours. Bookings close at 1400 the day before the relevant walk to allow time for lists of walkers to be printed.  Bookings for the Quiz and Buffet Supper will close a week beforehand so that we can confirm numbers for the catering - please let us know of any dietary requirements when you book.

We are extremely grateful to the generosity of our sponsors who have enabled us to keep ticket prices unchanged from last year (£5 for those walks accompanied by an expert, £4 for the remainder, £12 for the Quiz and Buffet).  Payment can be made by cash, cheque or most major credit/debit cards.  In line with other booking systems, there is no longer a charge for using a credit/debit card, however a booking fee of £1.00 will be added to the total ticket value in a single transaction - regardless of the method of payment.

Although a number of walks are free, places on them still need to be booked in the normal way.  For the Children's Treasure Hunt on Saturday, places only need to be booked for the participating children - not for the accompanying adult.

Once again we will not be issuing tickets for the walks - confirmation of payment for the relevant walk will be provided during the booking process.  Registration at the start of the walk will be based on the lists provided from the booking system.

Walking Opportunities

The Corsham area provides walking opportunities all year round - whether self guided or with a local group.  The Corsham Bookshop and the Tourist Information Centre in Corsham High Street both have a small selection of booklets of local walks available for purchase and in addition there are a number of on line resources.

A number of national and local groups walk regularly in Corsham and the surrounding area and welcome new walkers.  If you do not walk regularly with the relevant group, it is advisable to contact them beforehand so they are aware of likely numbers on the walk.  More information - including contact details - can be found on the Corsham Walking Festival website or downloaded here.  Thank you to the reader who pointed out that I have been using the incorrect title for the Long Distance Walkers Association for some time!

Walkers Are Welcome

The Walkers are Welcome update for February contains news from around the Walkers are Welcome network.  It also includes a reminder that the new General Data Protection Regulation comes into effect on 25 May 2018.  We think that our current arrangements for managing membership of the Corsham Walking Festival and subscriptions to this newsletter already comply with these regulations - but we will keep this under review.  We are keen to avoid producing extensive data protection documentation if it is not required!

Finally, thanks to the good work of one of our Committee members we have had some success recently in distributing Walkers are Welcome stickers in the Corsham area - please look out for them when utilising local businesses and mention you are a walker!

If you would be interested in getting involved in any other Walkers are Welcome related initiatives please get in touch.

Hope to see you on a walk in the Corsham area soon.
