SIXTY GSF SUPPORTED ATHLETES SET FOR COMMONWEALTH GAMES

With the 2018 Australian Gold Coast Commonwealth Games a month away, with new 2018 athletes included it is projected that over 60 supported athletes will compete at the Games for their respective countries.

Below profiles those selected thus far and with some teams yet to be released these numbers will increase.
Notable athletes include 11 year old Anna Hursey a table tennis player selected for Wales, she will be the youngest athlete in their team.

Team Ireland will include 10 boxers supported through the Foundation and with their heritage in boxing a large medal haul is expected to come back to Ireland.

Leon Rattigan will be competing in his third Commonwealth Games within Freestyle wrestling, having successfully won bronze at the two previous Games in Delhi and Glasgow respectively.

Leon explained “I have received support for a number of years and its made a huge impact in my preparation towards qualifying for Gold Coast Games, as a non-funded sport the financial support has paid for international competitions, the gym has aided my strength and conditioning programme and when I picked up an injury I was able to get back on the mat quickly having received physio treatment sessions, I look forward to going to the Games and bringing home my third Commonwealth medal”.
