We are celebrating 55 years of KOMO and following a period of continued stability and development it's time for a second youth, something that is perfectly illustrated by the ambitious innovation operation launched in 2017.

Purpose: to improve your position as KOMO certificate holder!
Because KOMO certificate holders play a unique role in ensuring construction and infrastructure quality and we want everyone to know that! Will you join us? Numerous initiatives have been instigated in 2017 in consultation with certification bodies and market participants. Result: the valuable KOMO quality mark is made visible in a modern world and continues to gain value.

Important KOMO initiatives in 2017

KOMO will strongly support the demand for KOMO certified and attested products and processes, both in terms of construction and infrastructure and at consumer level;
KOMO will hand certificate and attestation holders the tools they need to give new impetus to the effectiveness of the marketing communication concerning their KOMO certificates.
KOMO launched KiK (KOMO instrument Kwaliteitsborging, text webpage in Dutch), the first generic quality assurance instrument for the future Dutch construction regulations. KiK honours independently certified quality and therefore products and construction processes issued with the KOMO Quality Declaration;
Netherlands Federation of Contractors (AFNL) and KOMO entered into a “quality coalition” (text webpage in Dutch) which supports KiK. The KiK implementation is also supported by BRIS, SKG-IKOB, KIWA, STABU, CROW and ISSO and other 30 (branch) organisations in construction and infrastructure. De facto this implies a major quality coalition between the construction products sector, the contractors and knowledge and certification bodies.
The KOMO Assessment Guidelines are once again part of the STABU specification systematics; the KOMO Specifications Service in OSF( = Open Specification Format) continues to grow. This enables building specifiers to effectively integrate suppliers that meet the relevant KOMO Quality Standards in their documentation!

However: this is only the beginning

In the coming months, you can expect numerous KOMO innovations. These all have the same purpose: to create extra added value for you as a holder of a KOMO certificate or attestation. To create an even more preferential position for products and construction processes in the market. And to underline, even more clearly, the unique advantages of independently and objectively proven quality for infrastructure and construction. Market participants request KOMO. From corporation to real estate tycoon

André Snippe (Dutch), Real Estate Man of the Year 2017: “The KOMO certificate plays an important role in construction, which is in everyone’s best interest.” The Hague housing corporation Staedion: “Our specifications state that KOMO-certified products must be used and that, KOMO-certified companies should be hired, if possible, for construction processes.” The market demands KOMO and the demand is growing.

KOMO process certificates are growing in value
The increased importance of KOMO process certificates (text webpage in Dutch) is an observable trend. After all, in the construction and infrastructure industry, it is not just about using the best materials. Those best materials also need to be processed in the best possible way in order to achieve the desired construction quality and building performances. We are expecting an increased demand for KOMO process certificates, especially considering the proposed reform of the construction legislation.

Building with trust = trusting KOMO
Clients, residential consumers and managers in housing, utility and hydraulic engineering construction, also known as the construction and infrastructure industry, demand KOMO quality. Architects and building specifiers base their project specifications on it. A development that keeps growing in advancing markets with increasing responsibilities and liabilities. With KOMO-certified products and construction processes, the construction and infrastructure sector proves that all applicable national and international legal regulations have been adhered to. In addition, that all jointly established market and project-specific requirements have been met. It can’t get any clearer than that, can it?

KOMO is strengthening its European position: member of the UEAtc

KOMO is now a member of the UEAtc, the Union Européenne pour l’Agrément de Technique dans la Construction (European Union for Technical Approval in Construction). This European umbrella organisation connects organisations that work to ensure quality aspects and certification in the construction and infrastructure branch. As a member of the UEAtc, KOMO’s international standing as voluntary private quality mark increases.

It’s a logical next step for our organisation ; in certain submarkets in Germany, France, Austria, Italy, Belgium and Luxembourg, the impact of the KOMO quality label is comparable with that of the Netherlands: “quality as promised”. This is why clients in the construction sector in those countries request KOMO-certified quality. Therefore, the KOMO Quality Mark is an important advantage to anyone who wants to gain confidence and international ground.

UEAtc: contribute to mutual recognition
The UEAtc objective is to contribute to an open European market and to foster the mutual recognition of certification and attestation. In addition, UEAtc contributes to the trust in technical standards as well as in the innovations that are developed according to these standards. As a member of the UEAtc, KOMO is a strong European player. And more importantly: as the holder of a KOMO certificate or attestation, so are you. This means that your efforts to indisputably demonstrate objective, independently verified quality, are internationally recognised.

Check with your certification institute
In which markets and in which countries will the KOMO Quality mark offer you important advantages and therefore profit opportunities? Your certification institute can tell you all about it. Check with your contact person(s) from the certification institute of your choice to learn about the possible international dynamics of your products and/or services.
