Dear Port Fairy Folk Festival Friend,

This year we have a series of concerts and events that are exclusive to our wonderful festival. Two incredible performances of Exile: Songs & Tales of Irish Australia, Harry Manx with the Warrnambool Symphony Orchestra Octet and Geoffrey Robertson AO QC talking about when Folk Changed The World.

Limited tickets and sites at Tent City are still available and Port Fairy is the only place in the world where you can be a part of the following:

When Folk Changed The World

Geoffrey Robertson AO QC will talk about the folksingers who moved him – and his generation growing up in the 1960’s – Guthree and Seegar, Dylan and Ochs, Baez and Odetta and Country Joe McDonald and more, who raised their voices for civil rights and against the Vietnam war. Do we need some of their satire, their tuneful topicality and their passion for protest today?

Harry Manx & the WSO Octet

In 2018 the Festival is delighted to be presenting two exclusive performances of Harry Manx accompanied by the Warrnambool Symphony Octet. A mission of the festival is to facilitate outstanding collaborations, and the timing was absolutely perfect to bring together artists from our region to work with the multi award winning Harry Manx.

Harry’s recent project which culminated in the recording of Faith Lift epitomises the extraordinary talents of this great artist. Faith Lift showcases the breadth of Harry’s work and truly puts the spotlight on his great talent for string arrangements and composition.

When the festival approached Harry about working with the Octet he relished in the opportunity and the international exchange began. “Music is personal but has a glorious universality and I am so happy to be working with these artists from Warrnambool for these two special concerts at Port Fairy. Those of you who know my work, know I love to experiment and explore, and this opportunity to work with a string section from the other side of the world was one I couldn’t pass up. We have met in the virtual world and I cannot wait to perform with them at one of my favourite Australian festivals,” say Harry.

The specially formed Warrnambool Symphony Octet have been delighted and creatively challenged by his stunning arrangements, and these concerts promise to be one of the many highlights of 2018.
