Dear <<Name>>,

First of all, welcome to all new members!  You are an integral part of the association and we look forward to your participation.

There is so much going on in the new IAJW community. We recently held our second telechat with guest expert and author, Sheila Bender who taught us how to use our 5 senses and metaphor to enliven our journal writing.  Thank you for sharing your wisdom and creativity with us, Sheila!

Speaking of our Journal Council, we are excited to have Susan Borkin join our IAJW team.  You can learn more about Susan, her books and work in the therapeutic writing field by going here. Susan will be offering courses and fabulous resources which will be available in the months ahead.  If you would like to receive her journal writing tips and exercise, and more than 60 other journaling and life writing tips, prompts or exercises from our experts, please visit our member only area (log in as a member or become a member now to access this inspiring member benefit).

For more IAJW member benefits and updates, please see below.

I hope you have been enjoying receiving your 7 Servings of Journal Juice delivered directly to your inbox.  One person recently wrote to me and said:  "I just want to thank you so much for these inspiring pieces of Journal Juice... I can now feel the stirrings of my inner ally slowly coming forth again. I am beginning to let go of some of the parts I struggle with each time I put pen to paper."

Do you ever struggle with journal writing? Do you ever feel resistance to write?  Perhaps you sometimes procrastinate when it comes to journal writing (or doing anything creative and expressive for yourself)? You are not alone!  It is a courageous act to put pen to paper and write for yourself.  Things stir, open, come out, and sometimes tuck away and hide until ready to be expressed, or known, or seen.  We must trust ourselves as we write in our journals.  We must trust our own lives, and stories, and words and right timing.

"Art, after all, is about rearranging us, creating surprising juxtapositions, emotional openings, startling presences, flight paths to the eternal." ~ Rosamund Stone Zander

  • What do you resist when you are writing in your journal?
  • What purpose does procrastination serve in your writing (in your life)?
  • Procrastination helps us avoid what we are afraid of.  What do you fear?
  • Are there emotional openings, little windows, where journal writing can help more light (lightness, ease) get through?
I am excited to let you know about our NEW Ask Our Coach feature on our IAJW Journal Writing Blog.  Joyce Chapman, one of our Journal Council Experts, has answered the first question on how to create a journal writing habit.  Joyce offers both a short and long answer to this question and you can benefit from her wisdom here.  I love how Joyce asks some very provocative  questions about willingness in her response!  These questions can make journal writing prompts. A huge thank you to Joyce for sharing her joy for journaling with us!

We welcome any questions you might have about journaling, life writing and/or creativity.  Simply respond to this email with your question or submit a question here and we will feature an answer (or two) in recent weeks on our blog.  Many of our Journal Council Members will chime in with their responses and expertise.  Ask Our Coach, we are listening!

A reminder that our next Writing Alone Together Circle is tomorrow, March 6th at 11:00 am PST/2:00 pm EST.  You can learn all the details including the link to join here.

There is power in writing and journaling together with others for creativity, connection and support.  Tap into the inspiration of Writing Alone Together in our member-only circles.

One of our members wrote this after watching the recording of our last circle (which you can find in the member area):  "I watched and participated in the last writer’s circle and the first prompt led to the second one and I started writing about my life with ADHD – I have a hunch my memoir will be a collection of essays and this might be one of them. I am grateful this has started up again – all set for the next one.” – Carol Longenecker Hiestand, New IAJW Member, February 2018
