Dear Coaches and Teams:

The competition draws near!

This is the third and final newsletter with information about our Heartland Tournament. Please go to http://www.kcfirst.org and check the event listings and the items on the right column for information on the topics of the previous newsletters. 

If you have not already, please do these things immediately:

  • Sign up a student as a Student Ambassador.  Deadline has been extended till Thursday.  We have received nominations from just these 10 of 43 teams: 1108, 1723, 1785, 1806, 1939, 2410, 4455, 5082, 5119, and 5918. Please get your nominations in if you are not on this list.  Our Student Ambassadors are invaluable to us.  Student Ambassador Training will be at 1pm on Friday in TC 228.
  • Have seniors and all students complete the Survey

 A couple additions at Heartland to note:                                              

POWER Down Room:  We are providing a room for students feeling stress during the regional.  Encourage students who may be suffering from stress, anxiety, or depression to visit the POWER Down Room in TC 232.  Students are welcome with adults or without.  Licensed Clinical Social Workers will be present in this calming environment.   Adults are welcome to seek advice on behalf of a student.  POWER Down Room will be open during the regular hours of the Regional. 

START a Robot Booster 501(c)3:  Come hear how Mentor Lucy Pudvan of Blue Valley CAPS created a 501(c)3 Nonprofit for BV CAPS' 3 FIRST robotics teams.  Short half-hour presentation on this and how to streamline your Robot Booster club will be Friday at 3 pm in Room TC 233. 

 

Team Social: 
The Team Social will be Sunday morning from 6:30 - 8:30 am at MCC-BT.  Tickets are $5 cash or check only and can be purchased at the event on the day of.

TEAMS ATTENDING AND PIT INFORMATION:
Click Here for a listing of the teams attending our regional, both by team number and by high school.  The bottom portion of the document shows the pit/team arrangement. If you want a table in your 10 ft x 10 ft  pit, email Robert Dumler at rdumler@firstinspires.org .  

CONCESSIONS AND FOOD TRUCKS: We will be selling concessions Friday through Sunday.  Concessions will be located on the 2nd floor of MCC-BT (just above the entry foyer).  Concessions will include soft drinks, water, fruit, candy, and chips and are being sold by the Park Hill and Park Hill South FRC teams.  Be sure to tell your students to bring their money!

Food trucks will be located in the parking lot to the right as you exit MCC-BT main doors (at the circle drive).  They will be present each day with times of: 7:30am to 6pm on Friday, 7:30 am to 4 pm on Saturday, and 7:30 am to 2 pm on Sunday.  Three of the four will be there from 11am - 2 pm each day. 
Parking, Bus Parking, and Robot Load In
Please Click Here for important Bus Parking Direction Map.  Click Here for information on Robot Load In and Pit Setup.  Parking is free in all lots of MCC-BT.  See diagram below where P indicates Parking. Note an enclosed area in the Northwest parking lot will be reserved for bus and van parking.  The Robot Load In door is a large garage door on the western-most wall of the building as indicated below.
Senior Surveys and Senior Recognition

Please have all your students complete this survey .

We have received Surveys from these teams (number indicates how many seniors completed the survey - as we are looking at theirs especially before the event for our College Walk preparation to take place at Opening Ceremonies on Saturday):

If your team is not on this list or if you have more seniors, please forward your students the link to complete the survey.  We will check your team's status at check-in on Friday.

Saturday, March 10, 2018 is Senior Day at the Heartland FRC Regional.  We plan to celebrate our seniors by calling them out onto the field at the start of opening ceremonies (8 AM) and encouraging them to wear spirit wear from their college choice.  Please spread the word to students and parents that Saturday is Senior Day at the Regional and to wear their favorite or chosen college's garb.  In addition, we are asking colleges that exhibit on Scholarship Row to provide seniors with spirit wear to represent their college choice.  
 
MASCOT PARADE AND OTHER STUDENT ACTIVITIES: Queuing for the Mascot Parade will be by Pit Admin Sunday at 8:15 am just before Opening Ceremonies. You do not have to have a mascot.  Four students can participate.

Please forward  this flyer  and/or print it and pass it around so we can get your friends, family, and the general public in to this great tournament.

FACTS FOR MEDIA AND PRESS
We encourage teams to promote the Heartland Regional FIRST Robotics Competition and your team's participation through your school newspaper, school and community calendars, and neighborhood new media outlets.  Please note: During the Regional, all outside media representatives are asked to check in at the event (front entrance) and contact Callen Zind or 816-564-9511.
 
WiFi:
WiFi will not be available to teams at this venue.
T-SHIRT SALES and FIRST Store: We will be selling custom-designed T-shirts specific to this year's Heartland Regional. Look for T-shirts and the FIRST Store in front entry halll of  MCC-BT.
