Notice of Special General Meeting
A Special General Meeting for members of Howe Sound Women’s Centre Society will be held on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at 38021 Third Avenue at 9:30 a.m. The purpose of the special meeting is to adopt changes, if thought fit, to HSWC bylaws to reflect requirements of the new BC Societies Act and BC Housing.
The special resolutions require the approval of a majority of not less than two thirds of the votes of our membership.
While the BC budget contained welcome investment in services responding to women and children who have experienced violence such as outreach and counselling support services, as well as investment in affordable housing, there was no increase in operational funding for Transition Houses and Safe Homes.
“Transition Houses and Safe Homes in BC have not received an increase in ongoing operational funding for a decade. As a result, those working as first responders to women and children fleeing violence do so with limited resources, performing complex and unpredictable work for very low wages, often during single-staffed shifts.”
