We hope the new year has ushered in both good and great moments, and the lesser ones have been met with a quiet, dignified single finger gesture - a thumbs up, that is. Control what you can, adjust to what you must and let the rest jostle about until it tires itself out. That's one of our main sources of exercise...

Read: The Philosophy of Andy Warhol. Unroll your eyes and suspend your judgment awhile. To wander inside the maze of an artist's mind is a profound experience, regardless if you 'like' the art/artist or not. Thank goodness for the contrarians, that prefer to eat cookies for dinner, that hoard shopping bags of candy and who prematurely dye their hair grey. A favourite line: “I never fall apart because I never fall together".
Watch: 'Tashi and the Monk', a documentary. Now this has been out for a while, in modern terms at least, i.e. since 2014 and it was a chance discovery. It's a short watch, around 40mins. Into the world of Jhamtse Ghatsal we go, a refuge for abandoned children run by Lobbing Phuntsok, a Buddhist monk trained by the Dalai Lama. Tashi is the latest entrant, and her spirit is as tumultuous as her childhood has been to date. Minute to minute we discover the incredible warmth, compassion and hope that runs through each child and staff member, and also the sorrows and hardships that refuse to keep at bay. GO: For the London bound, and currently snow engulfed, the Francis Crick Institute is a necessary pilgrimage to be made. And for the non-Londoners out there, bookmark the homepage and drop in when you're next in town, and feel like having your mind blown, several times over. The building itself is a monolith, bubbling behind the British Library, and is home to over a thousand scientists working on some of the most cutting edge biomedical science. Until the end of the year the Institute is holding an exhibit, Deconstructing Patterns: Art and Science in Conversation. You'll never look at a fruit fly the same again.
